Maybe he meant this more like he doesn't want to be associated with the word "dubstep" anymore. Like how when people don't want to say they listen to dubstep because you get idiots going "yeah bro I like those flithy wubs"
Either way, I got a lot of time for Benga.

If that is the case, you would think that someone with the visible standing he has within the mainstream would be the sort of person to help do something about that.

Only ever like 26 basslines.
Guy has always been the one in the limelight more, or at least perceived to be craving it. Skream, on the other hand, still releases tunes on Deep Medi as well as his more pop-ish stuff and bring out classics in his set, amongst the Bro-ish sounds.
Never really dug any of his beats.

benga has made some good ass tracks in the past but that one with the video about the records making that waveform was utter wank, just pointless wandering. to be honest i dont give a rats ass if he's gonna leave dubstarp or whatever, the man has lost his touch

Its not the fact that there would be real intruments...i play guitar, bass, drums and synth myself but bengas recent work has just seemed fairly rushed and theres just nothing going for it, bringing live instruments into the mix will probably just sound really cheesy and shit

tbh I don't blame him, he gets shafted by people either way. I can't say I'm suprised but surely artists are allowed to progress their music without being subjected to some of the total tripe thats spouted everywhere including in this thread. All these bloody scenesters that say they dont like benga - wtf are you on about? Bare good tunes check the back catalogue. I bet all the hipsters slinging shit are the same ones that critisise the bro step kids for 'not knowing their history'.

What, you expect something like respect from the trolls on here? Nah...
The fact there's even someone trying to run a label in this thread just opening shitting on Benga and his history is both disrespectful as hell and hilarious.
Oh, and to whoever said "Benga wanted the limelight more", your racism is only *barely* concealed. Ya may want to reevaluate what ya said...

My issue with him and other big names are that they help forge and shape this great scene that many of us are part of, gained them their fame, gave them a living, helped pay the bills (and more) and then suddenly they dump it as soon as it seems to become fashionable, in some cases, attempting to act like they were never involved in the first place.

Also, presume you're on about me.
1) I like some of Benga's stuff (Night, DOAAW, Skank, Star Wars), and in my above post, I name him as someone who was instrumental in forming and shaping the scene. Don't think that's openly shitting on someone.
2) Liking Benga, or even KNOWING about Benga is not necessary to run a label, let alone one that doesn't put out dubstep releases.

Jesus Christ. Far FAR too many people bemoaning one of the originators, one of the genuine pioneers of this scene. You lot need to shut your mouths and go listen to Newstep again, The Judgement, the Southside EP. Come back and talk shit about someone who's work has carved and moulded so many good parts of this music we listen to. Man's been releasing big and genre defining records since 2002. 10 years. Wicked you don't like his recent output, Dubstep WOULD be a different beast had he not been around during the early days.
He's one in a long line of artists we all loved to say he wants no part in Dubstep anymore. He wants to move on, perhaps only from the connotations of Skrillex, Doctor P and whatever other shit people are trying to peddle as Dubstep nowdays. Either way, he can do whatever the fuck he wants, he's earned it. All you divs talking about underground/mainstream priorities know nothing. You do the work, create the sound, hone his skills the way he has, full time all day every day for years and then talk about not wanting to work on some other things or some big money projects.

He's welcome to do what he wants, and I totally agree with you about dubstep being different without him. I'm not going to fall at his fucking feet though just because he put out some good records a few years ago.
It's a forum for discussing things, and if some people don't have the same views as you, then don't try and belittle them because it doesn't fit what you believe. He CAN do what he wants. As I said above, if he has said it because he doesn't want to be associated with Skrillex etc. (unlikely considering what Skream and Benga play on Radio 1), maybe he could've used his time and standing to educate people on what dubstep is to him.
Don't overreact. Remember, you're just another bedroom warrior yourself.

Pretty much.
Its hardly unresonable for fans to lash out when the guy is more or less dumping them to go and party with mumford and sons

Yeah pretty sure he means get away from this type of dubstep as his radio show on radio one is hardly pushing the boundies in the direction of his old material.
End of the day nothing we are saying is going to reach him and he will likley not give a fuck even if it did so there we go.

I see what you mean, but its a question of taste - if people don't like something, they will voice their opinions. Truth is the only song I've ever liked in 26 basslines. the rest, in my humble opinion were generic and poo. So him 'Leaving Dubstep' doesn't faze me, I just see it for what it is - a publicity scam and something controversial so close to him releasing an album....

There's a distinct difference between discussing things and belittling something.
If someone says ' You know what it's shame that Benga's not going to be making more Dubstep, he made some classic tunes and helped define the genre in it's early days. I'm not really feeling his stuff now.'
more power to them.
if someone says
mIrReN wrote:JUST RETRIEVED PW TO SAY: LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
or
CALPoL wrote:he's going more mainstream and giving up on trying to make decent underground music.
That to me seems to 'belittle' what he has done and achieved. There's no discussion there, no history, no recognition. He is one of the few artists who seems to be doing incredibly well after having paid his way. He's not a new name that jumped on some bandwagon, he's not someone who has made a one hit wonder and ridden on it's coat tails. He's genuine pioneer. He DID/DOES use his time to educate people, he is on so many radio shows, podcasts and alike, high profile and otherwise where he's played high quality unknown music.
Please excuse the bedroom warrior comment, it was too harsh and I edited it out as a result. If anything, I think it's sad but a not unexpected turn of events (Benga's comments, not me saying certain members of this forum are divs, though that's probably not unexpected now).
