but yeah the mixtrack pro is actually pretty decent for how cheap it is and tbh if you learn how to beatmatch you could transfer your skills over to whatever using at the club (pioneer cdj or whatever)

or with the 400 dollars you could get a dedicated serato itch controller (as someone in this thread has already mentioned)

like i said, if you wanna play in a club dont even worry about the controllers... b'cuz 9/10 times the promoter is gonna tell you to fuck off if you're using a shitty controller thats running VDJ (eg the link you posted earlier)

people have suggested getting a serato itch controller, but even that would get you some shitty looks from people in the club.

Ah I see... thanks. So what would you suggest using? Obviously I'm starting out DJing so I don't have to worry about playing a ton of clubs or anything yet....

lotta folks rant about the output level being way too low.
It's weird : complains only come about it with Serato software (with traktor and itunes and whatever it's alright), Novation says it has a (little bit) lower output, due to the USB-powering only. Opinions seem confused : most (relevant) reviews are really happy about it, and don't tell about this problem. (imho problem come from both : itty bit lower output + failed output configuration, idk)

Other disadvantage can be the missing jog wheels : if you get to play on something else, you might be slower than with your stuffs.

If there's enough space and the setup is prepared (there's only the two master output to plug to the console and set level right which should take <1min. + fine tuning during first song in the set), i don't see a problem using it in club condition.

Novation Twitch, AmericanAudio VMS4.1, traktor S2, seems to be rather good stuffs in that range of price.

who cares if you get weird looks from people if your using a controller, it's about the skills not the medium you use IMO. if you are good people shouldn't care what your using. more people are using controllers and laptop to play in clubs nowadays too as it is slowly becoming more accepted.

nevertheless it shouldn't be a problem playing a club if you've learnt on a controller really. if you learn how to beatmatch on turntables, cdjs or a controller you should be able to go a club and use whatever's there as its the exact same principle. i think its harder to beatmatch on a lot of budget controllers than pioneer cdjs anyway cause of the shitty short run pitch controls which makes it harder to fine tune. you could spend ridiculous money on a pair of second hand cdjs just because thats what they use in the club but it would be def more than 400 dollars.

numark n4 isn't a serato itch controller as far as I know as only certain designated controllers work with it. the n4 would work with traktor though which is more highly respected than virtual dj. apparantly the vestax vci-300 is supposed to be a good option for itch and its around your price range. the novation twitch looks a bit hard to use for beatmatching (unless you want to be one of those dreaded sync djs lol)

Many peoples just won't think out of the box. And it's hard to get their head out of their a**. I had weird remark from this guy looking at my bass guitar setup in Poland : "your bass sound is very weird, what compressor do you use?", "none here's my pedalboard give it a look", "no it's your guitarist's, these pedals are for the guitar", "no dude, mine", "no way", and so on...
I think the touchpad thingies on the Twitch looks like very good option for fine pitching, the reviews are praising this
system. It's in no way an "autosync" box imho.

I'm still hesitating between the VMS4.1 (which is real big, but has LOT of controls, and interesting features (XLR i/o, XY touchpad/mouse, analog mode)) and the Twitch (witch might be weird to use at first, but has a stimulating approach and is very portable). The lot of cues and the beatslicing seem exciting.
If I get the Twitch you'll get my review about the touchpads right here.
