A lot of people have probably heard this one but I think it's the biggest track I've heard all year. Calyx & TeeBee are fantastic at what they do. The vocals are heart wrenching, and knowing that Calyx himself sang them is an even bigger wow factor. The simple sub bass and twisty reeses are a great contrast to the rhodes-ish chords in the beginning. Also really loving the ear candy atmospherics strewn about. Enormous tune.

The sax sounds amazing. Super laid back melodies. I also love the simplicity of the drops.

Everything about it. The filtering and processing of the samples, the vocal cuts, and most of all the texture and sound of that bassline (it sounds so simple but I can't get anywhere close to that sound), and the way the bassdrum just melts right into it.

His production is so clean and somewhat repetitive yet
it never really feels looped. to me.

Kendrick Lamar - Swimming Pools

I'm not really into hip-hop anymore aside from a few select artists I pay attention to. However, I've probably been listening to this song for a good month now. It's in one of my playlists I listen to quite a bit and it always seems to pop up at just the right time.

The ambient pads used. The light string hits. the crazy amounts of reverb on the lead during the chorus. The seemingly simple yet perfect choice in bass. It all just comes together so well. Kendrick's style is absolutely perfect for this sound. Kind of reminds me a little bit of Kid Cudi but there's something about this guy that just seems a little edgier when it comes to what to expect.

Rocket Juice & The Moon - Poison

I would like to think this one kinda speaks for itself. It's pretty much exactly what you would expect from a collaboration between Damon Albarn, Tony Allen and Flea. The whole album is decent really, but this song is what I had hoped to hear. Sadly they didn't really go this route for many of the songs.

I love the abstract style they use in the first half of the song. All the elements seem to build a sort of tension that gives the track more energy. Then after 2:05 everything comes together. The vocals he drops in are a style that i've been chasing forever. Btw if anyone knows some tips on creating something like that i'd really appreciate it. :)
one of my personal favorites. its a fantastic tune

This is the tune of 2012 for me, Wayfarers production style is so original and so far away from what he knows, absolutely amazing how he does it :Q:

dat atmosphere
the pads really are what makes this tune work, they give it that almost progressive feeling of speeding through space nebulas or racing across a polar landscape at night.
repetitive, spaced-out, with elements dropping in and out, it's a bit like boymerang - soul beat runna but it definetly sounds modern.

I'd never listened to this.

My god, what a tune.

I love the intro on this, and I love the vocal sample right at the drop. Also, right around 1:53 the bassline killed me. Love the vibes of this song, really upbeat and funky.

The bass sounds used in this, and this was really the first tune to really show me that all you need is ONE bass patch to make a killer tune. I think it's just an awesome example of automation, as if it's one synth by itself but automated to create something completely, it's that control that I'm after. And the hip-hop influence, that isn't like, over the top trap stuff, but gives it a nice sinister vibe.

If anyone has any advice on creating a similar synth/bass used in this, please let me know.

The way that it isn't perfect, but then that's what makes it perfect if you know what i mean. Sounds like it was made in 20 minutes but also sounds timeless.
It makes me sad that i'll never be able to make anything this effortlessly beautiful.

GAH LOVE IT SO MUCH

also +1 on 50 mile view

Paul Weller's latest album, Sonik Kicks has had me picking apart all the detail since it came out. There's so much in there, and it's all produced so tastefully and has that lovely warm tape sound.

I highly suggest a listen, the opening couple of tracks are massively original.

Also, for something more involving and surprising, try King Creosote's album Diamond Mine. Won't be to everyone's taste, but it's very beautiful, and shockingly well produced. It's a great little bit of art.
