tried using live a while ago and small things pissed me off so much that i couldn't bear it. in reaper you can make it do almost anything in a couple clicks
also tried switching to renoise and i think eventually use it in tandem with reaper but i have a hard time with it, but i know its sooo good

I'm surprised no one has said much about Sonar. I played around with Sonar when it was in it's beta stage. Even then it was actually pretty solid. The layout is nice. It's quite easy to use. It was a rather pleasant experience as a whole. It had some issues but none of them were really off putting or anything. I personally use FL and I think if I felt that I wanted to change Sonar would definitely be on the list of options.

With reaper you can't beat the price. Honestly, the price of reaper is by far one of it's biggest advantages. If you're coming into this fresh and haven't really tried many DAWs then it's a great choice. I tried Reaper out for awhile but I was so used to FL and that actually made it a bit difficult for me to understand some of the basics of how the program works. It actually took me longer to get things going with Reaper than with other programs I have tried. The great thing is you can demo it for 30 days with no restrictions and if you really have to you can take some more time. Cause it will probably take you a little longer than 30 days to really get used to the program. After that though I think you'll realize you are getting a real DAW that compares with any other high end program out there at just a fraction of the cost.

With Studio One I did the 30 day demo. It's got a nice interface, and the layout is great. Nothing seems like it's missing. Which does sometimes happen with some other programs. Other than that I really don't have much more of an opinion on it. I didn't really spend much time with it. I really had already made up my mind by then and I just didn't see the point in spending too much time with anything else.

I tried reaper and went back to Ableton Live within days. I was able to learn Ableton compeltely offline in 3-4 days, with Reaper I struggled big time. Just doesn't suit how I think/work. I love how it looks but unfortunately it just doesn't work for me.

So the main advantage of Reaper would be ease of use then? I guess that's a big pro, workflow is probably one of the most important features of any DAW imo. I just tend to shy away from anything that's cheap, there's usually a reason. But it seems people like it. Wouldn't want to switch DAWs at this point though, seems like the transition is gonna take more time and energy than I'd save.
