The postman who does my street is a hero tbh. Every day an old dear waits for him and tries to talk to him about the summer being rubbish or whatever but he escapes within a minute every time!

If there was a war near my home a la WW2 again, I would sign up and fight.
The fact is, soldiers are glorified and army life is glamorised in a way that is really off colour. When is the last time you actually saw a genuine low ranking soldier get interviewed on the BBC? It's always Lance Corporal Posh Man or Captain Cigar-Face doing the talking, and that's for good reason. They don't want to fill the news with snippets about how depressing the whole thing is or about how Private Chav saw his mate Private Charver have his legs blown off by an RPG.

maybe where you are... but soldier life in the US is not glorified or glamorised. You're going to be paid somewhere in between shitty and so-so. You're going to work more hours than your average person, you're going to make less for doing it, and your reward is housing built in the 1950's. Oh and you're on call 24/7 without exception.


There are only two reasons to ever join the military IMO. None of which is serving your country. There are more effective ways to serve your country and produce far more change. The only two reasons to join the military are A) You want to go to college but will never have any means of going on your own dime. IE you're poor. The military is fantastic for this. equal trade off imo. Worked for me. God bless the USAF. or B) You need job stability for the next 20 years without interruption (IE Kids, family health issues, whatever). In both scenarios the soldiers risk is paid off with a reward greater than or equal to. Joining the military for any other reason is stupid.
