Actual zoo.
I know it's not very Amsterdam specific but, well, who doesn't like animals!

In the news today - Amsterdam is no longer going to ban tourists buying ganj

:h: :Q:

It could have all been a clever move from them to increase tourist levels this last year

Nah, That's amazing! I love zoo's. Will be a bit nippy for the
end of November, but what the hell! I'm only going to be there
once with the Mrs.

I've always wanted to go to Edinburgh zoo too - they have a
huge number of penguins. (Best animal by far.)

Wasn't it like a state vs. national law thing? I know the mayor
of Amsterdam was dead against it, because they didnt want
to see it go underground again, but Maastricht and the southern
counties banned it due to the problems with traffikers over the
Belgian borders?

well theyre changing it to let each city decide what their 'Law' is, so that could be the case

They have a fuckton of penguins there so i'm sure you'll enjoy. You can even touch them! (doubt you're supposed to though)
If it gets a bit nippy just head into the reptile house - couple of hench alligators in there - or the butterfly house, or even the aquarium... plenty of indoor things to see.

We got to them around dusk - many of them were just standing and staring at people. Quite eerie... kept expecting Danny Devito to come up from one of the drains.

Also, does anyone know of any things like Cabaret nights?

I heard there's some pretty sexualised ones in the Red light
but I'm looking for more of the comedy/singing/vaudeville
style nights...

Also, BOB'S YOUTH HOSTEL

We've already got a place booked but had I known about
this I would have checked it out. Thanks - may be the place
to stay when I go again with the lads.
Seriously recommend it. Even if you don't stay, just drop by for a spliff and a chat. It's a room full of wicked people getting high, drawing stuff, playing cars, drinking tea and being nice...Good music and friendly staff, crazy Dutch board games on hand (Stappelwoord anyone?) ... Ah, Bob's :)

Edit: Just saw this on their Facebook:
NEW AT BOB'S:
the most unique tour ever:

you will NOT see the anne-frank house, the van Gogh museum and the red-light district.....

What you will do: take a 3 hours bike ride with two of Bob's staff-members who know the coolest places in amsterdam, places tourists don't know and the locals love!

For only 10 euros you will:

- get a bicycle for three hours
- information and comments in English, Español, Nederlands, Deutsch
- get a free ferryride across amsterdam's IJ river
- visit an artist laboratory in an old massive shipyard.
- see an old communistic submarine
- have a walk over amsterdam's coolest new hip cultural area which harbours the mtv studios and a drink with a view over amsterdam
- visit the coolest bar of this year which has a beach to chill and an artistic 'rusty' interior.
- visit an independent amserdam beer brewery under a real dutch windmill
- go to a hip bar on n the 7th floor of an old-newspaper building and have an amazing view over the city
- a free beer upon return at bob's

Starting thursday 11 october, every day (if we have a minimum of 10 people)

Don't miss it!!
Sounds pretty cool

If you like Hamburgers: Burgerbar (Is one near Rembrandtplein and also one in the Warmoestraat)
If you like middle eastern food tings: Bazar (Albert cuypstraat 183) or Balti House (Albert Cuypstraat 41)
If you are into Pizza: Toscana (Haarlemmerstraat 130)
For Vlaamse Frieten (Not really dutch but still nice): Manneken Pis, located at Damrak and other places

Besides that the Vondelpark and American Book Centre are nices places to visit 8)

Go to Baba's. Such a cosy coffee shop, took shelter in there during a thunderstorm - sippin' coffee and smoking zoots. So nice.

Head by the Dampkring for a smoke as well. Far from Amsterdam's cheapest shop, but I'm still saying it's got some of the country's best weed. Especially the mexican haze is just gorgeous.
