Joking aside, there are plenty of services that you can buy comments/links/followers/plays/etc. How much do you think it'd cost (assuming your production was of a half decent standard) to suddenly start making a commercially viable sort of music (Brostep/complextro/EDM/whatever) and then 'buying' your way to stardom?

I reckon global recognition could be anyones for £3k.

Does anyone know or have an approx idea of how many sales it'd take to get a Beatport number 1?

Found this on another forum;
Things ain't what they used to be folks. On a slow week 600-700 sales will get you in the no1 position on the beatport electrohouse top 10. Friend of mine did that last year. With 250 sales you just cover costs (mastering, etc) 2,000+ sales is considered a success these days, the days of 10,000 sales are long gone, though I'm sure some tracks sell that much and more (Justice, etc). The money is in performance and licensing, charting on beatport is just a way to get that.

I've gotten 5100 plays on Winter Song by featuring it in my sig, shared it on facebook to my friends aswell once. Some of them shared it on, and it spread out to quite a few guys that know who I am and stuff. I visited a friend once in a town almost 500km from where I live, and this random dude that knew my friend just came up to me and said that winter song is awesome. Pretty stoked on moments like that.

Gonna try to send my new stuff around to youtube channels and stuff, think I'm gonna give my EP away for free and get it on spotify aswell through a free service. I have 100 subscribers on a list on spotify, so adding it there will make it spread a bit if people like it. I've never done much to promote my music tbh, but I feel that it's time now.

Honestly I doubt its as low as 600/700 when it comes to the dubstep and electrohouse charts.

Also @blinkesko - I'm feeling spotify would be a good way to go with my EP too - letting people share and play your stuff for free whilst still retaining the limitations on downloads has to be a good way to get heard.

Not sure the sort of attention that Keira Knightley fans would bring to the table TBH.

I think the best way to get promotion would be to go door to door with a shotgun, giving people your soundcloud/ youtube URL and saying you'll shoot them if they don't listen/ comment/ like plz.

If you get a few mates on it you could easily expose hundreds, perhaps thousands of people to your music a day.

Don't forget to tell them that you'll be monitoring their Internet IP Address and tracking their Cookies to make sure they visit your Soundcloud or "You'll Be Back!!!!" lol
