I'd much rather listen to some mindless catchy Hannah Montana shit than any of that bland self-important cheesy ass dad-rock, probably written for old people who think it's their tunes because their 14 year old self liked it.garethom wrote:Most of those bands are absolute dogshit, they just got their hands on their dad's CD collection and got a stiffy.

if not mistaken they share the same history... (rock being sprouted from r&b)Maccaveli wrote:Holy fuck I hate people who say that shit. Acting like they know so much more about music than everyone else their age but they're completely ignorant to the fact that R&B is a genre that has a history longer than their classic rock. Then again they're probably 13 so they kind of get a free pass to be a knob.
Pretty much, they're both descendants of blues, but in my opinion R&B like Syl Johnson, The Supremes, etc. holds a lot more in common with its ancestors than the more, uh, white (you know what I mean) styles of rock that these people are generally referring to. I mean, when someone like that says classic rock you can bet your ass they're not talking about Little Richard. So if you consider the birth of the music they're talking about to be in the mid-late 60s, then R&B does have a longer history. I'm no expert though, feel free to tell me I'm wrongmIrReN wrote:if not mistaken they share the same history...
