How much would/do you pay for your sample packs?

I'd torrent them if I could and ignore them if I couldn't

All of the sample packs I have are freeware packs or they came with my DAW. The freeware packs are mainly just drum one-shots though. I havent found any loops, basses, synths or anything in the free packs that were very good however, just drums. If I did come across a quality sample pack that intrigued me though, I wouldn't mind dropping $10-$20.

The sample packs I just don't understand though are the Vengeance ones. How the hell do you justify pricing a sample pack at $80?!

Anything under 50$ would sound shite.

I've now bought a Dave Smith Tempest. Fairly determined that I can use that for most drums with processing and extra samples from records and weird shit and my own synthesis and recordings.

only reason i would buy samples is cause i need them for professional reasons, as a sound designer or soundtrack composer for example. and then i'd buy top level stuff like boom library or some good kontakt libraries.
for music, nah. i'd rather save the money and get some hardware, record my own sounds. buy a better microphone or a proper needle for my record player.

i mean i'd be lying if i claimed not to have the vengeance packs but i find 90% of the stuff unusable and have been getting way better results by making my own drumhits stitching together parts of free samplepacks (goldbaby freebies, luthatron sample collection and 5k drumhits for example) and synthesized parts.

Hell, some stuff around that price sounds shite. Look at PrimeLoops, LOL. Look at these poll numbers...shame on you torrent people...I'll say it again:

A couple payed packs for some solid backing, freebies/freesounds.org, field recorder = sorted. And really freebies + field recorder = sorted.

Only samples I've paid for was a $2 snare pack. I've got a lot of samples from freesound, dsf, dsf sample swap, doa, random websites. I torrented one vengeance pack to see what people were talking about lol And downloaded one of those wank robostep packs to see how cheesey it would be. Also downloaded a pack called "Amazing Snares" from mediafire that I think were probably from a commercial sample pack because I've heard them in a lot of tunes. Really if you want those kind of sounds, sample them from songs yourself like people say the vengeance packs are created lol
Not sure how to vote though. At some point, I could see myself buying a Steven Slate drums pack. Unless I reach a point where I can record and process my own stuff to be similar before then.
