Erm, not always. Self-promotion can do wonders as long as you go about it the right way. You can't just upload a tune to your soundcloud and expect thousands of people to listen to it without promoting yourself in the slightest

Not that big of a deal lol. If they don't like it the chances are that they won't bother responding to you about it, and will probably forget who you are unless you overload their inboxes with muck.

Then they'll block your ass.
this is something i worry about. i don't mind sending people tunes once but is it worth sending them shit again if they never replied to your first message?
The people who've pushed my stuff in the past haven't said very much to me personally. I still kept sending. Some people will even give you feedback and help you improve gradually.

Sometimes they like stuff, but they forget, or you didn't tag it properly so they can't find out who they got it from etc.

In some cases actually talking to someone over AIM etc before sending stuff helps.
Do you say zerbaman? Or do you say zebraman?

there are a load of promoters on "YouTube.com" that promote a variety of dance music/very prevalent in this internet electronic dance music scene. could start there, they shouldn't mind you sending x number of tunes. obv. if they think you are good they'd contact you back, get info , etc .

Yep, I do that... hasn't yielded any followers though. Probably just gotta do it more.
rorz9992 wrote:Nothing wrong with some good old fashioned real life networking. Hand out CDs of your tunes or mixes as people are leaving clubs (obviously pick the right clubs and the right nights). Not only will you distribute your music (OK, so most of those people will use the CD as a coaster or put it straight in the bin), but it's a good way to meet people who may be interested in what you are doing. Make sure to include your contact details with the CDs (soundcloud link, facebook page, e-mail address for bookings if you DJ, etc). This is a good start IMO
Gooood iea!!!!!!

Someone else mentioned "pay someone" and after talking to my gf it's become apparent how important a good promotion team is to this game. Definitely a solid suggestion, but not a possibility right now.

If you're gonna pay for someone, pay for an actual PR team rather than just some joker who'll post your tunes on his youtube channel that has like 15 followers, or will put it in their soundcloud group.

If several people told you to concentrate on writing beats, you should probably concentrate on writing beats.
