garethom wrote:Yeah man, big up, can imagine this would've been quite difficult. Wounder is a highlight for me.
It was pretty difficult, and at times through the year I didn't think I'd ever finish it, but I just persisted.. went away and came back to it a lot. I think the hardest tracks were probably Spaceape and Southern Comfort.. Even though you probably can't tell, as my rmx of Southern Comfort is quite sparse.. but I really wanted to give Southern Comfort a different feel to the original version. The original sounds like walking around London bar-hopping and getting wasted on whiskey, I wanted my version to sound like the comedown to that haha.
Also, big up to the guys above for the praise. It means a lot when people say they enjoy it as it feels like the effort I put into it paid off

Also Gareth, I actually mentioned this project in the interview I did for Night Tracks with you iirc, but I wanted to keep it a secret for if/when I finished it

NT: Do you have any other releases planned?
D: I love doing remixes of tracks just as much as I like making originals and I have an ambitious idea for an album full of remixes that I'm working on next. When it's done, Night Tracks will be one of the first to know.
So you did! Glad it surfaced!

I gave this a try. I don't like it as much as some others here.
Don't get me wrong, a lot of effort went into this and it is generally a different enough take on the original material. There's some top production going around on some of the tracks.
But generally, this doesn't have the groove the original material has. I know, this is something different, but the vibe just doesn't sit right with me. And I'm not talking about that comedown feeling you wanted to evoke (which is there I suppose), the tracks just lack a general direction even with the more ambient approach.
The tempo and rhythm, percussion...are no longer relevant, which leaves you hanging on to the echo's, effects and yes, rain of which there is plenty, but it doesn't make up for the lack of structural density.
Overall, it is a decent bedroom ambient album, but the fact that it is a remix cd and the fact that so much of the original material is still present (even if you've transformed some of it quite well), it pales in comparison of what Burial managed to invoke in me.
Southern Comfort is the best take for me.

I do really like the 4x4 take on Broken Home. I can imagine myself actually playing that one out. I might have come a cross a bit harsh above. It's a good effort but you know, some of these tracks are dogma and it's hard to improve on that.

edit: I ran out of free downloads on Bandcamp. Hit the monthly limit in less than 24 hours

.. so I have a mirror up for the full album on Mediafire. If anyone can sort me out with a HTTP mirror, let me know, that would be cool. Feel free to spread the album anywhere and everywhere.

Joeki, don't worry, I appreciate your comments. At least you were honest and provided some legitimate criticism and were polite about it.
I just don't get the guys who come on just to say things like "Ugh" .. what's with the amount of hate on DSF these days? Whatever, anyway.. most people seem to like it, which is cool with me. Thanks again to the guys above for biggin it up.

I can count on one hand the number of quality Burial remixes (at least, those that I know about): Kode9, Shlohmo, and now Davwuh. I'll be listening to this one for awhile

Finally got round to listening to this from start to finish, a very good effort indeed! Thoroughly enjoyable listen and a nice take on the album. Although I'd agree it is very hard to top the origianls it's just as hard to do something different with them without completely butchering them.. you certainly didn't do that.
You're always gunna get shitty comments from the fans who believe certain things should be left alone. I don't think any tune should be like that, it depends what you do with it.

Thread about remixing of what is probably the most popular actual dubstep album ever, where a lot of people consider it sacred, gets one 'off' comment in amongst resounding praise and you focus on that?! Somewhere, plasticman's head just exploded.

Nah, I'm not just talking about this thread, I'm talking about the whole place in general. I don't frequent the forums much, but I've noticed it has become a steadily more hostile and bitter place as time progresses

yeah obviously as you grow you are going to attract more people and a lot of them are a)clueless, b)lazy, c)trolls, d)can't take a joke e)won't read stickies f)users that have been posting for a long time have gradually been beaten down by life and have become bitter.
Why is this all such a surprise. Also, internet has progressed a lot from an exciting new tool of communication (between producers, labels & fans) to an anonymous way of calling eachother names and spewing criticism. I really don't think DSF is to blame here m8e.
