most uni's can help you out a little extra and a lot even provide extra bursaries etc for free but they don't go round spouting this information freely cos obviously it costs them a lot.

Don't move in to halls: it'll save you a fortune and puts you in step with housing contracts for your entire uni life. Just go look for house shares upfront, you have to move in earlier but it'll be 10-30% cheaper. You might even be able to find yourself your own little flat so you don't have to risk living with pricks.

If you're worried about not meeting people and making friends, don't be; most students I met at uni were pricks and I would never have hung out with them long-term anyway. You'll end up hanging round with people on your course or have some other common interest with.

Yeah, it's not like they'll stop halfway through or be able to tell the difference...

Student life is so fucking easy, try waking up at 6.30am every week day to do manual labour all day and only having enough spending money for a couple of cheap piss-ups a month and few weeks of cheap holiday a year. Or getting up every day for a rush-hour tube commute and filling your days with mundane office work for a shitty boss. Half the students I knew only went to about 10hrs a week of lectures and have nearly half the year as holidays.

You could get a place that isn't a set July-July year's rent, all the other non-student people that rent get places at all times of the year.I had a student place that was September-September.

Or getting a job is generally a good way of being able to pay to look after yourself.

Fuck a job, 2nd year onwards is time consuming if you wanna get top grades.. and for the money you pay its not worth cocking up.

Live off bread, put the end bits of the bread inbetween other bits of bread to make a thick bread sandwich.

one of my flatmates applied for financial support of the uni before, he had to show them his bank statements to prove he had no money and wasn't wasting it all on gambling (which he was) and they gave him like 500 quid which he didn't have to pay back

You do realise you actually have enough money if you don't spend it on getting pissed? If you budget properly, then stick to it, you don't need any more than you're given

Pro-tip: Don't spend too much time arsing about applying for jobs. It's an absolute jungle atm and you can spend a lot of fruitless hours looking and applying without hearing a thing back. Sign up with an agency. They'll do all the looking for you, and a lot of places only hire from agencies these days (the NHS, city councils, etc.)

And as others have mentioned... be prepared to work your arse off if you get a job b2b full-time study. It's do-able though, if you know how to say no ;-)
