Another distortion bassline-tune, just like Spongebob and that other tune that sounds just like it. Yawn.

couldn't agree more with Sand Leaper, but that quote from joe C is 100% trueJoe C wrote:Coki can do whatever the fuck he wants considering each time he has one his "sound phases" he practically redefines the genre, does it better than anyone else, then moves on! hes on a warpath
Well, no offence to you friend, I see your point. And agree to some levelSand Leaper wrote:Another distortion bassline-tune, just like Spongebob and that other tune that sounds just like it. Yawn.
I agree with everything your saying but, I dont think Coki has to worry about getting booked for DMZTHA ILLSTA wrote:Well, no offence to you friend, I see your point. BUT
The reason Coki and others make so many of these type tunes, AND the reason they get so many plays is..
Audience reaction and public demand.
Every time I have heard spongebob/f**k-off played in a dance the crowd go f***kin' MENTAL, bawlin' fo' reload e.t.c. and several times e.t.c.
The DJ will always go for crowd reaction, each an' every. It's his job, really.
DJ's such as myself who try to educate the crowd with alternative shizz e.t.c have to put up with a load of crap from the crowd, people sayin' what's this ? when are you going to play some dubstep e.t.c. have you got any bassline stuff e.t.c..e.t.c. Plus there is always the feelin that you are letting the promoter down e.t.c. 'cos the crowd ain't wilin' out an' shizz and sometimes even risking no re-booking e.t.c.
I myself do not care so much about this all, but you can check my signature below in reference to this. And occasionally my policy works okay, crowd dependant.
This can also effect the amount of bookings you get, the size of venues you get booked for and the amount of fee you can charge e.t.c. after all people go out to be entertained i.e. wilin' out bawlin fo' rewind and having a good time e.t.c.
Again, I'm not that bothered but can easily understand what makes people play like this...and crowd reaction is addictive
And P.S. I personally think Coki's beats are BADBOY and stand out amongst many other similar beats in this style... although it's not really my cup of tea.
So next time you go out try calming everyone down every time they jump up for these tunes (JOKE) or go mental yourself for tunes YOU like..
maybe everyone likes it, referring to the "go mental to the tunes YOU like" thingie you saidTHA ILLSTA wrote:Well, no offence to you friend, I see your point. I'm well aware of the fact that he's churning out these tunes along the same formula to give the dancefloor what it wants.THA ILLSTA wrote: Well, no offence to you friend, I see your point. And agree to some level

*phew* I'll have you know he takes great care in making his tunes, more than most.Sand Leaper wrote:churning out these tunes
True dat. Something we must all try and avoid.Sand Leaper wrote:It doesn't change the fact that making music by the same blueprint gets boring and repetitive. Especially when you know that the producer (and the genre in general) is capable of so much more.
None taken.THA ILLSTA wrote: True dat. Something we must all try and avoid.
And P.S. I wasn't really directing all my comments at you.
Just a general thing, for any people reading that are not aware of these things.
No offence pal.
Coki's hype is at its largest because he's been putting out consistently decent tunes. How can you say his tunes are at their most repetitive? Unless you're looking over his shoulder at his computer screen, you can't make a statement like that off the basis of two tunes.Sand Leaper wrote: I just find it a bit sad that Coki's hype is at its biggest when the productions are at their most repetitive. Not to mention that it leads to wonderful tunes like Old Hope and Serious gathering dust on his harddrive.
Yep, a bit of a storm in a teacup.Elementalism wrote:I don't get some of you lot.
Coki has a style. He's a producer.
Are you gonna knock producers like DJ Premier, The Neptunes, Kanye West or RZA for having a style? It's not a problem unless every dubstep producer suddenly starts trying to make the next Spongebob or Road Rage.
I've heard people in dances who've bought a Burial album or a couple of Vex'd cuts actually complain that DJs aren't playing those sort of tracks in clubs. I don't know about you, but I don't like Vex'd much and Burial's stuff is stuff I want to listen to at home, maybe in the car. Hang tight the guy who walked past me at The End a few weeks ago on the phone to his mate:
"Fuck that, dubstep is dead, it's wobbles and that sort of shit."
It ain't like Coki has suddenly found a nice little corner of dubstep that he's claiming as his own. Road Rage or Spongebob are nothing like anything off the Red Eye EP, and Burnin' isn't comparable to much stuff he's done either.
You lot are running too far with the whole formulaic thing. There's nothing wrong with a producer making similar sounding tracks, the problem starts when everyone starts putting out tunes that sound the same as 2D and front like it's not a problem.
You lot forget that Coki is one of the dudes who is responsible for getting the scene to where it is, I very much doubt he's trying to kill it.
That the tunes are "consistently decent" is your opinion.Elementalism wrote: Coki's hype is at its largest because he's been putting out consistently decent tunes. I fail to see how Spongebob is so completely and radically different from his previous tunes? It sounds like another one of his tried and tested basslines to me, same structure, same progression, same emphasis. The only difference is that it has been warped and distorted like hell.electric eliminator wrote: Man comes out with another completely off the wall style, and still folk aint happy, what gives?
Name a tune that Coki has made that sounds similar to Spongebob.Sand Leaper wrote:I fail to see how Spongebob is so completely and radically different from his previous tunes? And Jeff Mills has been doing stuff outside of minimalism for years. Probably cos he has never felt compelled to provide his crowd with "bangers".
