i say trip hop and if they say they don't know what that is I say nvm and talk about something else other than music.

Ill play Dubstep loud and proud!

But if someone asks, i will not say i do, i dont want people to think i like that Taylor Swift tune(the one that goes:trouble,trouble,trouble).

Haha i used to say this before i realized i sounded really pretentious

sometimes i might say "UK Style dubstep" or "old school dubstep" something along the lines of that.

why is this phrased like an unpopular opinion on dubstepforum? also why would it be relevant to anyone?

90% of all conversations about dubstep I've had when people ask about my music taste, I've given up and now just reply "experimental electronic stuff" most of the time

Yeah I can relate man. If someone asks me what sort of music I'm into now I just say 'electronic music' and leave it that... seeing as most of the stuff I like is dance music but not really experimental / IDM stuff. But if I just said 'dance music' I guess they would think of Calvin Harris or Deadmau5 or something.

I don't tell people I like metal either cos they instantly think I mean Metallica or Iron Maiden or something like that I would never listen to when I only really listen to Meshuggah and Deftones and a few others from that genre.

Even some of my mates who are quite into their music have no idea about dance music really and assume it all sounds like David Guetta or else it sounds like happy hardcore /gabba type chav stuff.

Meshuggah relates to Iron Maiden the same way Skrillex does to Coki: the first is the perversion of the latter.

Maybe so, but I'd like to think Meshuggah is a perversion of Iron Maiden in a good way.
