bouncingfish wrote:But how do you create the Massive Phase effect in e.g. fm8?
massive uses phase modulation (PM) on the 4th oscillator, fm8 uses PM as well (its a dx7 emulation which relies on PM not FM).
@OP fm8 can do PM on the audio signal, also zebrify (FX version of zebra) can do this too.

Again, what exactly does this do? Just use the carrier as the modulator as well?

with fm8/zebrify (using them as a modulator) you can play midi notes, so therefore you can do proper PM on the carrier (being whatever the input signal is)
it doesn't always sound good using this method it can get messy, it's fun to try out though.

you referring to the envelope shapes or is there a way to actually insert your own waveforms? just wondering since i have read the manual before.

So i open massive, add a square wave on osc 1, go down to the modulation osc and add 'Phase' to osc one. Piece a cake.
If I now have a sylenth patch for example, and I want to add the same 'Phase' effect to it. You're saying I could do that in fm8? Or with ring modulation? What has this got to do with ring modulation?
Sorry for making myself look like an idiot but I need to understand this.

Phase Modulation and Frequency Modulation are basically same thing. They are both forms of Angle Modulation.
Ring modulation modulates the amplitude of a signal with another, which is basically a extreme LFO on Volume.
Ring modulation can't create the same sounds as Angle Modulation.

That Waves Mondo Mod is pretty good. I picked it up when they had it on sale several months ago. It has AM, FM and Rotation modulation.

what's rotation modulation?

It's a stereo panning effect. AM is tremolo and FM is vibrato. It has LFOs as well.

Can it do PM though?

Bifilter can do something like this, but it might an emulation.
