- plus many many others... I have rinsed A LOT of DSF'ers on my show over the years, always curious how people make their music.

Well, since it's my suggestion maybe I'll have to be the first. We were thinking of implementing this idea as part of a Creative Commons project I'm working on.

The way I see it - there's no need to try to do everything. This is why the CM Masterclasses are cool and all, but after a while, they all get a bet samey. The just drop a lil' knowledge on everything... even though in reality, we most likely would love to see them really open the books on one skill and just get deep on it.
So take an element of production that you feel proud of - and something you feel you can help others with - and just focus on that.
Case & point - sure, me showing off some cello licks might be cool to some people, but unless they are gonna invest years and years in practicing - they won't really ever be able to replicate it themselves in their own studio, so what is the point? If I do one, it would probably focus on my style of sound design (which is shaped by the way I combine field recording and sampling). I might talk a little about digging as well.

I totally agree on the CM Masterclasses, I've lost interest in them at this point.
I'll have to think it over and see what I can come up with, I'll have to ask a few folks who have heard my tunes. I'll be doing it with my phone camera or maybe the web cam on my laptop
I'm stoked to do this now though!

i'd be down to show off some mix stuff though, using a combo of hardware and software. what a certain signal path gives over another. again, not so sure how useful this'd be, as the program material won't be anything slightly close to dubstep.. but i'm down.

On the contrary, I think mic'ing could be very interesting. But then again - I am a nerd and find even very subtle details interesting.
Also - as for it not being dubstep, neither would anything I do... In fact, I don't think I have ever written a dubstep tune. I think that as production heads, it is always valuable to learn the techniques and methods of producers in other genres.

Yeah I'd be super interested in seeing any of you dudes make a video on something. Doesn't have to be a masterclass, just a demonstration of how you do things. It'd be entertaining if not educational.

After thinking of the quality of the video from the masterclasses, I guess I'd be sufficiently equipped to make one lol Maybe I'll make a video of myself trying to make a tune in 10 min in Renoise.
...after talking to some friends I've got some ideas...might end up doing more than one video to cover the ground I'm thinking of covering...but I'm doing this for sure, I've absolutely no idea by when I can finish it hopefully by the end of August ish as the semester starts about then and it'll be back to teaching Freshmen how to write academic essays.

Anyhoo, I spent sometime yesterday getting acquainted with Camstudio and I recorded this very short video on how to make a beat in under a minute with Renoise.
I've not done a whole lot on the uploading side of youtube, so I'm going to see what I can add to this to make it better.
I've been trying to find a way to get FL Studio's control surface to have a certain value to stop at rather than 100, you know like in Ableton with Macros. I've been linking two parameters to one knob but I want them to go on different directions instead of both going one way so I can get a good vowel EQ going on which is something I've been trying to perfect for months. This would also be helpful for BPM changes in the song (Like 174 to 70, 135 to 105).
Today-
I'm working on arps to go with my chords because I have been lacking arps in my earlier tracks. I made some successful ones by making each note 1/16 of a bar and going with the chord's progression (C5, A4, E4 and the arp would be C6, A5, E5). I aslo made some very fat kicks with bass boosting and compression plus limiting, layering snares is a goal I've achieved 2 weeks backs and have gotten the hang of by putting all of them in one send channel and adding saturation and then fading some snares to keep some of the attack on them since they can give it some punch (909 Snare and a Brostep Snare)
