I spent way too much time doing growl basses instead of actually making music

I have so much different project files with random reese/growl bass shit, so much once when I was saving another growl bass project, I called it fodjsiafdjoaijads and it said the file already exists

Actually now I started making random melodies, playing with scales and chords, but I have to practice a lot. I have to buy some midi controller so I'll have more control over my melodies and stuff yea
Well actually I was making melodies and shit back then but that was way too little. They sounded like crap.
tl;dr spent way too much time doing noise instead of music

I'd rather listen to a really well arranged song with an interesting melody that uses presets, then the best sound design in the world with all the bells and whistle that uses a three note melody.

Agreed. There's tonnes of tracks that have elaborate sound design, but don't have any grove or feeling to them.
Grove first I say!

A constant attempt at making a copy of something that's been proven as beneficial, but with each copy there's some some tiny mutation, amounting to a small change from the original. And a couple of years later, all those small changes add up to a big one that doesn't resemble the original. Sometimes evolution takes a giant leap out of nowhere though and that's dope, but those leaps are bracketed by long periods of relative inactivity and slow change.
This is a nice way of looking at it. Of course, contrary to evolution, we also have the oppurtunity to lift things that work in one genre and drop them into another, like crossbreeding a badger and a bee to get the badass honey badger. Many genres seem to be examples of this approach - moombahton allegedly started when someone played some house records at reggaeton tempo, mixing with reggaeton. As a genre it's now developed it's own sounds, feels and techniques to the point where it is no longer "just" slowed down house with a reggaeton beat.
Yeah with cultural phenomena like arts, language and religion there's a lot of cross polination you don't usually find in nature (though hybridization in the wild may be more common and a bigger catalist for speciation than we originally assumed.. I was going off tangent but I had a lot more to say about how 'hybridization' is a bit of a anthropocentric concept hahhaha), but most of the fundamentals in cultural and biological evolution are pretty similar.

Ahh that far back! This is the same feeling I got when I found out the riff in Led Zelplin's, 'When the Levee Breaks ' was written by Memphis Minni in 1936.
