seriously i thought the forums where meant to bring a community of people together that have the same interest as others and not to be fucking looked down upon by others who think they can be pricks to whoever they want. I can't talk about these things to my friends cause they have no interest in this type of shit, hence why i came to these forums.
i just got real up in this bitch

bruv in all seriousness there really isn't a lot to it. it just involves a lot of counting measures in your head, matching up beats correctly, knowing when to switch out of a song, and other shit too. it's not really something we can explain to you thoroughly through text, at least not in a way that's easy to understand.

I spent years on honing my dj skills, as did many others in this thread, and I'm still a long way from being what I'd call a good dj. yet you're somehow under the impression that we'd be able to teach you how to become a decent dj in just a week. honestly: if you don't know your tunes, you're wank. if you can't handle the gear you're supposed to play on, then don't. it's that simple. and yes, people will notice your train wrecks.
I tried to explain the basic concept behind most dance tunes, yet you ignored this advice. and ffs, cdjs are as easy as it gets. they even display the wave form. all you have to do is count (implying you know how to work the eq, the gain, the fader action and manage to read a crowd and react to their signals).
if you insist on making a fool of yourself and taking the piss out of every respectable dj, at least make an effort and learn counting the beats of a tune.
sorry for the inconsistent post. was trying to avoid using strong language.

I've been doing it for 4 years now, not a lot now i know that but i'm trying to be taking more serious by people because apparently it matters what equipment you use nowadays which i suppose i could understand... It just a massive change for me to go from laptop dj to cdjs, would love to own a pair of cdjs but i just think some of the prices are ridiculous. Wouldn't get a cheap set that would break after a year or two.. Do the 1000s display the waveform? Wasn't aware of that.. I didn't ignore your advice either I was just more concentrated im the c*nts with the sarcastic replies or the snobby remarks. Thanks for the advice though, I'll record and upload the mix i do on friday and post it to this thread so if yous feel like listening to how I did on the cdjs you's can do so. and give me feedback whether it was terrible or not

wont you know if it is terrible or not?
really if you can mix on a laptop and beatmatch by ear, then there should be no reason why you shouldnt e able to mix on CDJS. All you have to do is get the track to where you want to start, hit cue and then you can cue from there like when cueing from the laptop. so then hit cue on the beat and away you go.

I dont know what you mean by that though. You mean you dont know how bars work?
its pretty simple to know when to cue in, it doesnt really matter much just make sure its at the start of a series of 4 bars or summat.

i find it hard to believe that after 4 years you don't know that. Try counting the bars, if it's so much of a trouble, and cue at the start of a 16bar phrase. with most of dubstep it's very easy to tell where that is.
and watch this video, it's long and the guy is actually not that good at the actual mixing, but he explainss everything very nicely and in an understendable manner.

OP: people are getting wound up because you claim to be a DJ, yet you are asking how to be a DJ. It's ironic.
What genres will you be spinning?
Maybe plan out the first two or three tunes of your set, you could at least practice on your laptop before the show.

TBF M8. don't worry about cue points, 90% of tunes have a 16/32 bar intro, mix them from the start, to do that, you press play.
you should press play at the end of a 16 bar sequence if you want your mix to drop in and out of tunes and not sound weird, this is also a way to achieve a double drop, just by counting.. MAGIC.
tbf i was always more worried about people going from vinyl to cd rather than laptop to cd..

OP: Why dont you just use your laptop in the club if that's what you know how to use?

Take it slowly, don't play out until your mixing is tight and you're ready. Do it right.

if you can count from 1 to 4, you'll be alright. still, i'm as baffled as everyone else if you claim to have used a laptop to DJ for 4 years and you're asking about the very basics of music theory (i.e timing)

Ennit, I knew the basics of mixing and bars and phrases and shit before I even touched any mixing gear
