Surprised this didn't happen earlier tbh.

Even if more bootlegs do eventually get pressed most stores (probably) won't stock them out of respect.

What kind of peasant entitlement mentality is that? Because something is expensive, a cheap knock off is a good way of letting the masses get hold of it? Fuck that, this is like buying a cheap Rolex off a looky looky man on the beach.

Can't afford a Lambo, BRB bodykitting an MR2

I just feel like DMZ have desperately forced their music to be exclusive and expensive just for the sake of it, they used to sell mp3s. I don't think the car comparison works

nah Wub. you know I respect your oppinion, but your comparison is lacking hugely.

there have been a lot of plates around, and they've been sold. unlike Lambo, dmz decided to not further sell any older copies. the original vinyl presses (including the repress) are now subject to irrational speculation. Lambo is still selling their cars, and Rolex is still selling their watches (also, "vintage" Rolex watches are cheaper then new ones, limited editions excluded. and again, dmz007 was largely available).

a much better comparison could be drawn between an original Ford Cobra: the originals sell for £300000+, but since ford decided to discontinue this model, the AC Cobra build kit came up, allowing people to get a Cobra that comes with a more affordable price tag.
dmz are not making any money off their works anymore. buying that shit off of discogs fuckers will give these people money that should go to dmz.

now there are three possibilities to resolve the problem of "enough supply, but knobs buying all the stock and reselling them at ridiculous prices":
a) you think it's perfectly fine for your punters to pay 4000% of the original price and fight bootlegs at all cost,
b) you accept that there will be bootlegs, tolerate them and don't bother anymore,
c) you put another press into circulation.

I don't see how bootlegging should present any disrespect to dmz. if anything, selling their work at an irresponsible price to make some dough off of it is disrespectful.

pardon my insufficient english please, it's but my third language.

Fair shout, in hindsight it was a bit straw man :Q:

EDIT - Though I would argue that as with the Lambo example, if you did buy a bootleg it will only look/sound like the original (with a degradation in quality) but won't actually be the original.

The label can't be held responsible for prices on the second hand market though...sites like Discogs and (to a less extent) eBay have created the issue of ridiculous markups on what is essentially second hand music.

actually, it should be more like an original vw kaefer (beetle) at 4000% of its original price vs. some replica at the original price. DMZ records never were rare (except for 001 maybe, but I hadn't even heard of dubstep back then so I wouldn't know)
I think I remember buying my copy of 007 in early 2007 - so yeah.

I don't hold the label accountable for discogs madness. but if they don't like the bootlegs (and as far as I know neither of the lads have spoken their minds about these, so they most likely don't care that much), they should put some represses up. you can't expect the guys buying every single release to put up with the current state.

I'd buy a decent bootleg of Neverland/Stuck. no-brainer.

I have to add my thoughts on this, as I managed to get my hands on a copy of this bootleg, as I havent yet found an original for sensible money.
im more than happy with the audio quality on this, according to the release note it was not ripped from youtube or similar, it has been remastered professionaly and pressed as new.
According to my local shop there will be 200-300 of these made only.
I dont know where they are in the country apart from a handful he has.

I dont think by reading the release note and hearing the bootlegs quality that its a money making venture, just seems like a tribute to it.

one day ill get the original but now theres a permanent slot in my rack for this too! :-)

Do you know which distributor is selling these to shops or are they independent? Could you pick me up a copy, would fully cover the costs plus a little on top? please PM me.:)
Thanks.

now could somebody please explain the difference between bootlegging and pirating to me? if i rip someone's music from vinyl or cd and put it on the net for free download it's bad, but if i "remaster" it, press it on wax and sell it (probably even with profit) that's ok?

There is none.
How do you guys feel about bootleg remixes that get released and the original artist doesn't see any money, surely they should get a cut too?

wrong.
1. if the bootleggers aren't tnucs, they will price the item according to the cost.
2. if dmz007 (or 005 in my case) was still available, it'd be a different matter. however, it isn't available anymore and the only way to get a hold of it is by either paying £150 to some tnuc on discogs (artists don't see a penny of this amount), pirating a vinyl rip (which I don't condemn as long as it's for personal use only and not for djing/broadcasting/public performance in any way) or buying a bootleg, which was even modified by adding Mala's commentary to the beginning of the tunes, thus rendering it a bit less useful to djs... as I stated before, I don't see a problem with this as long as the guys pushing these bootlegs don't make a serious amount of cash behind all of this.

I'm all for supporting the artist asf., but as of now there isn't a way to support them. punters buying the bootleg would certainly buy a repress before even considering to go for the unofficial one.

some of you folk need to relax a bit.

Obviously the original 007 plate in the 'holy grail' in this case but didnt Anti-War Dub become available via that Mary-Anne Hobbs collection?

Sure I spotted that recently going for like £60ish and it comes with about another 10 tracks or something including Loe's Mud VIP? Not too sure if thats a mix compilation tho or if the tracks are 'DJ Friendly'

I'd rather shell out the $$ for that than buy a bootleg of some remastered rip or something..

it surely is interesting how you're trying to justify it, but in the end you're just making excuses and not valid arguments.
1) it doesn't really matter if they're making profit. most ppl who put up download links on the net don't make money (some may do due to ads).
2) it also doesn't matter if the tune is still available or not. technically as a bootlegger you're doing the same as someone who pirates stuff. you're taking copyright protected material that other ppl created and throw it out there.
personally i don't have a problem with either. i got some vinyl rips on my pc for home listening, wouldn't play them out though.
i'm just surprised that so many on this forum (which is very 'militant' when it comes to pirating stuff) seem to be content with making/buying/playing bootlegs.
again, if you can justify it for yourself or if you don't even give a shit, that's fine. but there's no rational reason why bootlegging should be more tolerated or accepted as piracy.

You'd rather spend £60 for a 4LP Boxset than buy a bootleg which will probably be less than £10 and has a louder pressing?

The VIP mix of Mud has Poax bigging up MAH, so it's not really DJ friendly.
