Installed. Took nearly 2 hours.
The new UI is incredibly nice. Clean. Everything is right where you need it.
And I think 8 sounds different, too. Can't confirm it, but old tracks opened in it have a bit more depth and less harshness than before, maybe. Can't quite put my fingers on it, but there is something happening.

Sounds psychosomatic to me.
Two hours to install it though? wtf?

Yeah, psychosummat. Different summing on the 2-bus, I think.
Yep, 2 hours. I accidentally installed 'extra content', so I've now got a few zillion gigs of banjo and saxophone loops that I'll never use.

What, no banjostep?
I dunno what it's like on a Mac but sitting watching a Windows PC install for two hours would be painful. And stressful, never know when it's gonna fuck up and leave you with half a DAW.

Yeah, I think there are about 8 DVDs in the box. Eeek.
Half a DAW? Now that's one way to cut down application bloat.

Got mine today,
The student price is actual £118.68 but you have to either buy it buy logging on to the apple store from a uni campus, or over the phone and then sending in documentation (scanned student card) to prove you're a student.
What's even better is that even though I only paid £118, they sent me a copy that says Logic Studio RETAIL. so hopefully next year when I'm no longer a student I can still upgrade

Look how cheap it is £289 on student discount if you dont have logic pro...
or for me its £129 what a price and takes up 39gb of space........
very very sick!
Here's the deal about Student Discounts (at least with Apple, and I confirmed this with them today): YOU CAN'T GET THE UPGRADE PRICE ON FUTURE VERSIONS. They just make the price so low to hook you in, and on the next upgrade you have to pay full price.
It's bullshit.

Ok, ok. Logic 8 really does sound better. It's more open, airy and less hard than the previous versions. It's more like mixing into an analog board now. That 'air' thing certainly wasn't there before. It's like the sounds can breathe.
There has been some serious voodoo done under the hood, that's for sure.
The new compressor doesn't suck, either. That horrible crunchy hardness is gone. Now, it's actually rather good...

Me too! Upgraded to Pro just SIX FUKKIN DAYS before the cut off!
So I pay £150 to upgrade a product that now costs £200 less than I paid originally? Think I'll wait a bit.
Used Creator (Atari) & Logic for years, tho. Love it!

Tha bollox.
Not too bothered about no new instruments, the interface improvements seem massive. Have you SEEN that "comp swipe" thang? That would save me hours, that would!
Sob!

I must say that the price drop for Logic is really tempting me at the moment

I've just done my first mix in it. It's WAY better. It's easier to get sounds to gel together in it.
I also tried playing older songs through it, and they are softer, more open and not as hard/small.
I'm very happy with it. The new comps are good and the Delay designer is some serious shit.
