This is an example of a very subtle/supple war for control over perception itself. Control that and you control everything. The secret? We've forgotten what real magic is, i.e. action at a distance - it's language. It's music. It's anything that can change the way we perceive everything. Lawyers, preachers, ad men know it. Others are aware of it but only dimly or unconsciously. If you can change a person's perception without laying a finger on them, then you have effected magic upon that person: you have changed their world, literally and materially.

Yes, yes and yes. To which I'll add, many people in the day to day world don't realize that they are helping very dark forces. They don't feel the giant hand up their puppety backside which animates their thoughts, words, and actions, so totally dismiss its possibility.
