Red Hot Chili Pepper songs have good bass parts because Flea is crazy. Under the Bridge is nice, easy and sounds good.
Loads of dub songs have insanely good bass as well

Jim Smith from Cardiacs is a ridiculous bassist... and he bought me a pint once, top bloke!
Seriously even if you don't like the tune you cannot deny his bass skills are mental

James Jamerson & Robbie are your friends.
if you know a thing or two about music, scales etc check some Jazz standards like Autumn Leaves. if you don't - Blue Bossa is the best tune to learn something.
also, Blues & Rock n Roll standards are easy and give you a nice sense of rhythm. same goes for most P Funk tunes (Parliament, Funkadelic, George Clinton, Bootsy's Rubber Band...)
Bootsy Collins has a sick groove, too.
but yeah, Jamerson is sick. if you're fingering that shit, Iron Maiden is good for stamina. seriously. old Motörhead aswell.
I really enjoy playing old Muse bits.
and always remember: Flea has sick lines but can't slap to save his life. his slap bass sounds fucking awful. try to get a decent technique from the beginning.

LOL Flea has bad slap bass technique? Have you listened to the Mother's Milk album from 1988, or the three before that?

Fleas best moments are when he doesnt slap. (Mellowship Slinky, end of My Lovely Man etc)
1000 notes a minute slap has never done it for me

Not even remotely concerned with the cliche of it all.
Man is amazing.

yes. battering the strings close to the bridge sounds just so incredibly whack and doesn't give a tone nearly as clear and powerful as achieved by other techniques. this being said, Wooten bores me aswell, so you might latch on to that.
also, what Johoosh said.

If I want a clear and powerful tone, I will play an fm synth.
