to the guy who said it was a rather personal question, to be honest if you felt it was too personal than just don't reply in this thread lmao.

No way am I feeling jipped in the mil, the mil saved me from poverty and is putting a roof over my head and helping me provide for my children. No we do not have to pay our stay on deployment.

This was just purely curious question.

jipped in the mil? lol

military is a bro breeding ground and needs to undergo some severe cultural changes before its worthy of respect
marginally better than being on the dole imo

might be different in america though where your dole is worse than the UK and Aus

oh my bad I didn't realize you had gone through our military as well. I'm assuming you did, otherwise that statement would confirm you are ignorant. But I'm sure you are not.

I've always been a massive proponent of salary transparency and it has got me into trouble with employers. The social faux pas of openly discussing salary is a construction. Enforced by employers to make sure that salary inequality does not affect work performance. Only the employer benefits from the secrecy and it actively disables those looking for the money they consider themselves worthy of.
ehbrums1 wrote:why do you care about how much other people make..
Caring and understanding how and why other people make certain amounts of money is important to gauge your own financial position. Knowing what you average salary in you company for your position, comparing it to industry wide averages is the most effective way of ensuring your employers pay you the appropriate amount (depending on you being good at your job obviously). Let alone weighing up the life altering decision of leaving one position/industry for another.
pkay wrote:loaded question. If anyone posts anything above 28k they will be crucified on this forum.
If this is true, then people are 1. fucking idiots or 2. utter children.

I earn 35k, slightly lower than the industry average for my job, but I am unqualified and much less technically skilled than most. By this time next year I want to bump it closer to 40k.
After tax and student loan repayments I take home about 25k a year, or 2g a month.

i fully encourage all of you to shake off the ridiculous social pressures of not discussing these matters, it can only benefit you and your understanding of your finances.

It's not considered a faux pas here in Spain and is openly discussed. Took some getting used to.
