No way am I feeling jipped in the mil, the mil saved me from poverty and is putting a roof over my head and helping me provide for my children. No we do not have to pay our stay on deployment.

Caring and understanding how and why other people make certain amounts of money is important to gauge your own financial position. Knowing what you average salary in you company for your position, comparing it to industry wide averages is the most effective way of ensuring your employers pay you the appropriate amount (depending on you being good at your job obviously). I earn 35k, slightly lower than the industry average for my job, but I am unqualified and much less technically skilled than most. By this time next year I want to bump it closer to 40k.
After tax and student loan repayments I take home about 25k a year, or 2g a month.


i fully encourage all of you to shake off the ridiculous social pressures of not discussing these matters, it can only benefit you and your understanding of your finances.

It's not considered a faux pas here in Spain and is openly discussed. Took some getting used to.
