Chill tune man. It reminds me of something but I can't think what... But w/e it's definitely lush. I'm diggin' those little pitch rise things you did with the samples.

you can make guitars so strange by messing with pitch. if you pitch them down they start to sound more like vibraphones aha

Yeah I've done stuff like that before. I really like the odd textures you get when you pitch them down and strech them. At least with an acoustic.

I've been thinking recently about incorporating guitar solos into my tracks. The thing is I'm having trouble making a synth guitar sound real... for obvious reasons.

For the playing in time thing, get in the habit of tapping your foot to the metronome. It forces you to kinetically internalize the beat instead of just passively hearing it.

You guys count bass guitar? Because I've played live bass on loads of my tracks.

Or is there the guitar player / bass player rivalry? I mean, we all know that bass players are better producers. :6:

Haha I'll count it. I need to pick up a bass real bad. I've been doing a lot of hip hop based stuff and I can always hear electric bass guitar basslines behind them. But alas, no bass.

Sometimes I try to pitch down a guitar that I played plucky bass style, but it usually sucks ball.

ye big tune
good example of using guitar in a tune creatively but i guess you were forced to since the full recording wasnt in time at all to any bpm :cornlol:

I would like to play my Fender Jazz on some tracks. Really smooth, deep sound... it's the quintessential dub sound

I come from a guitar background too...I've found I don't like using guitar for heavy electronic stuff, but I'll occasionally use it for more chill stuff. What I use it most for, is writing melodies and then translating them into the piano roll for synths to play. I'll sometimes play with over processing the guitar until it's some crazy unique sound..but i dont often actually use it..

Whenever I try to make dubstep with a guitar it just ends up sounding like a sweet ska track, because I can't help playing the offbeats.

But yeah, I'm a guitar teacher so it winds it's way into many a tune, often drenched in reverb and delay to make it sound like a pad.

I write a lot on guitar then sequence the idea in Ableton. I'm no keys player, so it's much easier to come up with melodies, riffs and chord progressions on the guitar than on the keyboard, and then I'll just program it in. I also like to record something rhythmic on guitar and use Ableton's 'slice to new MIDI track' feature on the 'transients' setting to create a MIDI version of it, and then chuck that MIDI clip onto a drum rack with hats and percussion loaded in. Instant feel, and way better than meticulously moving the midi notes one by one off the grid.
