There's plenty of places where there's none, but...
I'm not telling you to prevent further gentrification...

The fish and chip place is worth a visit in Headingley can't remember the name but it's award winning and that
Hi Fi is a decent club with varied music, Smokestack apparantly for hip hop altho I never went.
There's some alright pubs near the uni or if you want to travel in Far Headingley past the precinct.

Just went up for a random weekend with my girlfriend. And mate, Leeds is sick. Disco playing everywhere, and everything costs a pound.
For future ninjas interested, we went to Smokestack (soul/funk/nice vibes), some random anarchist bookshop/cafe playing banging techno, somewhere I think called Wire (?), small smokey and playing disco. Also managed to blag our way into the opening party of some new bar called 212 - really friendly vibes, nice soundsystem and a rotary mixer woi oi.
It is also possible to break onto the roof of the Inland Revenue building and get a cracking view of the sunrise over Leeds, but I didn't tell you that.
Mostly though I'm still amazed at how cheap and friendly everywhere was. £1.50 pints, 2 pasties for a pound....phwooaaaar. Could definitely get used to this. As to whoever mentioned Bristol - I think Leeds has a really similar vibe to Bristol, except less hippies, more students and everything's bigger.
Will definitely be returning!
