…fossil fuels are finite, and before they run out they will become insanely expensive.
We need to prioritise our reserves, instead of just burning the stuff willy nilly.
Welcome to my UBER BIG President of the United States Idea….
I follow some of Paolo Soleri's theory and solution of ARCOLOGY…
Where cities should be like boats floating on the sea of nature…
self-sufficient - 100%walkable - I think he said 900 people max
Everyone does duty to maintain the city
- i.e. one month you work the greenhouse
-another you are setting up in the music pavilion
-another you are polishing floors at the health clinic etc…
-doing laundry at the hotel…
-helping to manufacture whatever it is that someone has set up…
exp. they make wind bells at arcosanti and cosanti...
My idea would be - to build - around the existing rail system a series of mini-arc -cities - all connected by high speed rail - so that young people can forgo their cars but still live in a centralized urban setting - with out creating a huge bumble fuck of a mega-tropolis...
***vital***
I would also include with that a parallel natural highway - for
hikers - bikers- runners - campers - horse riders
- so you could traverse the entire system and thus country
…by very earthy means…
and each arc city would then service the travelers and act as concentrated cultural centers…without spilling to far or wide into
and spoiling the naturalness…
and if you are traveling and need to stop for whatever…
you could just absorb into the transient center for awhile and work
get your moneys and supplies and continue on
or you could set up permanently - and live your life…
be more of a permanent fixture to the arc…
-doesn't that sound fun!!!
travel them all and find one that suits you best…
become a guardian of the natural surround…
They say that historically it was this kind of travel and trade
that made the renaissance happen…
Italian Villas were designed with huge arched doorways
that opened into large semi-public courtyards - or greens/fields
to allow travelers to enter and stay to trade…
- but could easily be defended against….marauders.
