i do get the idea of rewarding client loyalty of w/e but there's other ways of approaching this rather than spam people with the album - altho probably less convenient/user friendly, like using a discount code or smth

You only get it on your phone if you have automatic downloads enabled in your settings, why would you set your phone to do that?
I don't really see the big deal with this. I can't stand U2 but people seem to very up in arms about receiving free fucking music, which kind of baffles me.

It probably could have been handled in a better way but it's pretty easy to ignore and/or delete if you happen to download it by accident.

Also I read somewhere that only like 5% of iTunes user actually downloaded the album, which makes me kinda happy because I really can't stand U2.

It's not on my phone. I'm running an older unupdated os so as to avoid this kind of thing. Data is data whether it is music, pictures of cats, or anything else, I don't want shit pushed onto my computers.
