But that was last year and I'm long gone! Would be interesting to see how things develop up and down the peninsula. One day I'll be back :)

roma IS a good place 2 go out, but not neccessarily 4 clubs: more 4 good wine, good food and wasting a lot of time on street corners arguing about where 2go out, and then realising its already 6am and u didnt go anywhere

but there r a couple of fun places

ex-squat-gone-up-market branca leone is the longest runnin of the better spots, tends to have decent sounds but i havent been in ages: http://www.brancaleone.eu/brancaleone.htm

a lot of old school dub or dancehall nights there, but dunno about dubstep

only problem is its far out of the centre, in an area called monte sacro. get a cab

much more central is the rialto sant ambrogio, also an exsquat in an old school. really nice location, good vibe. sounds depend on the night

used 2b a crew here called Blue Cheese who did real good nights. jungle, DnB, breaks, 2 step...but i'm not sure if they still running. heard it moved out to an area called Ponte Milvio a 10m drive up the river from the centre, but not sure if its still there.

another place i heard about but never been to is Strike, in the portonaccio/tiburtina area. i know they put DnB on there (Dillinja playing nxt week) but not sure what else. thinks its kind of a crusty dog-on-a-string place tho. as r most of the places playing DnB here (tho its not always what would b considered DnB back in the UK, often sounds more like it came from rotterdam)

but cant guarantee u'll find dubstep in any of these. no scene in roma that i aware of. tho i think youngsta played branca leone

hmmm, not very helpful i guess. sorry

EDIT: for just bars and hanging out in the piazza kind of nights out:

trastevere - is mad touristy but still full of locals and there's some nice spots still: a bar called freni e fizione on a little piazza by the ponte sisto is always rammed.

Monti: the 'new trastevere'. small, old, central area, like a village. a few trendy shops and a good enoteca or 2. used 2 b a wicked bar full of cubans, africans and ppl from all over, but it shut down. sorry

San Lorenzo: student/artist area. used to b a bit more anarchic now getting posher, but still pretty mad, and strangely not yet been invaded by the hordes of backpackers staying in cheap hotels 10minutes walk away at termini station. only a matter of time tho. fuckin stacks of places to eat/drink in this area, waaay to many to mention. and a couple of clubs. locanda atlantide used 2b alrite. sometimes. everything in this area will b cheap too, unlike in the centre.

Pignetto: the 'new san lorenzo' (a further 10m out of the centre) , still kind of quiet and underground, but a few nice bars/enoteca and it'll b at least another 5 yrs b4 a tourist finds it

Testaccio: a wierd area south of the centre (metro Piramide) that is literally ONLY clubs. and weird clubs at that. in funny little spaces like holes in roman walls, many of them will b outdoor in the garden or whatever by the time u r there. most r shit. some r probably still okay. must b like 30 or so spots all on the same stretch: monte testaccio

there, that shud keep u busy

Moody G wrote:OK, I am gonna give the lowdown on Italian dubstep attitude and what I think needs to be done if it is to go ahead and be successful. It might not be what some people want to hear, but I don't really care.

Here it is: people need not to have the same attitude as those who play Drum and Bass. There needs to be no hating. There needs to be no jealousy, there needs simply to be a united energy to do great things.

If the attitude remains in Italy as with DNB that "we are the best crew, lets keep this night for ourselves and not invite anyone but guys from the UK to play", dubstep will not be a success, or it may but won't have a great feeling. That would really be a pity.

I personally have written to many of the guys who claim to be into dubstep here in Italy (I am writing in English but have been living in Milano for many years), asking them to get together and think about proposing nights, and have also invited others to play with me at nights I have set up. Many of the people I have proposed things to I haven't even met, and have I gotten a response? Nothing, not even a mail in return. Nope, nothing. That's a shame, apart from being rude. Why? I couldn't tell you.

So, if you guys want something to come of dubstep in Italy, be friendly to others. You won't make any money in dubstep anyway, its for the love of it, so don't try to just do it by yourself. Get other guys in to play. They will reciprocate.

I could continue, but I want to know what you all think first.

G
I agree to this to a certain extent since I believe the whole dubstep affair can grow much in Italy but lets get together, put a forum up/myspace group/an msn/Aim meeting, lets make the point, and let the roll call begin. in italian -> spargiamo la voce, l'estate si avvicina, insomma, parliamone! I miei contatti sono tutti elencati qui, spero di ricevere tante risposte!
