Dubhead had a compilation series called-Dubhead, which were very good entry-level to the 90ties styles:
But nobody mentioned the mighy ruller-

I dont know about recommending you anyone that these guys havent already, but album-wise these are my top 3:
1)Scientist-rids the world of the evil curse of the vampires
Best dub album ever created in my opinion, and probably one of my favourite albums of all time.Featured on GTA3 as the reggae radio station on that and mostly a dub of Wailing Souls' Firehouse Rock(which will amaze you how completely different that album sounds without it being dubbed, also produced by scientist).Firehouse rock is well worth a purchase too!Both on greensleeves reggae classics for a fiver, get em from amazon
2)Augustus Pablo-Original Rockers
A collection of b-sides, but they are all amazing, not a dodgy song on the album(Some Pablo can get a bit dodgy with a bit too much synth and not enough dub e.g. the album "blowing in the wind"). The album i bought by chance when 16 after seeing the rasta smoking a massive pipe on the front of the cd case and did not regret it!What got me into dub!
3)Black Uhuru-The Dub Factor
Another absolute classic, the track names are brilliant and the mixing is spot on!

only 3 tracks are from firehouse rock, there's tracks from johnny osbourne's "fally lover", wayne jarret "chip in" and a couple michael prophet albums also "righteous are the conqueror" and "gunman", the last mentioned has the most tracks appearing on the album with 4

Style Scott and Bill Laswell inna Dub Meltdown.. great album.
for the classics its great if you can get the 6 or 7 track albums with the dub versions for the last half of the song. Once you find out the good backing bands, Roots Radics, Sly and Robbie, Steely and Clevie,.. check o see who they did sessions or riddims for..
Barrington Levy,
Tristan Palmer,
U-Brown
U-Roy..
Don Carlos..
some of the MC's/Toasters sound somewhat alike, but for the most part, they all had their own styles and trademarks.
now remind me why all dnb mc's need to sound exactly the same - respect to Kemo for mixing it up!

yeah, definitely up there with max romeo´s war inna babylon and hugh mundell-africa must be free by 1983
fisherman riddim got nice versions in 2006 too.

the backing vocals on this album are just superb, the meditations sang them according to wikipedia - can't find any of their albums on vinyl though. who knows where to get anything else they sang on?
the only bad thing about buying lee perry and reggae releases in general, is that you know there's hundreds and hundreds more that you still have to track down.

so true...BTW, Greensleeves just repressed Scientist Rids the World of the Curse of Evil Vampires....ESSENTIAL DUB PURCHASE...also highly rate Trojan compilations...a lot of Bill Laswell's stuff is really good too...
duh...just reiterated 2 or 3 other posts...guess I should have read back 1st
