sorry, guess i wasnt clear. not disputing that massive attack and portishead were good, massive attack particularly, they were the 1st succesful british take on hip hop...but i less convinced that all the weak shit them came after them is worth bothering with.

likewise, burial will probably spawn an army of sleepy MOR reverb n timestretch immitators that the world could well live without

using existing music as a point of reference when creating new music is at the core of all musical progression imo...

burial most definatly will of been influenced by existing music when making his tracks and without a doubt will of utilised previously explored ideas and templates when doing so.

so why hate on this guy?granted a couple of his tracks have got a burial feel to them, but if ur against using existing ideas when creating music then u may aswell give up on music altogether.

Mindless imitation will never be interesting.

Funny that I don't see people hating the Skream/Coki clones that appear everyday on the Tunes section...

u talkin 2 me?

if u r then read my post properly b4 responding, not against 'using existing ideas' (more commony known as 'being influenced') as I think my comment about Massive Attack made clear: they are a prime example of taking an xisting format (hip hop) and makin it their own.

but biting outright isnt gonna take things anywhere new.

when i 1st started makin music sum1 told me it was cool to rip of the artists u like, as long as u r rippin off more than one of them at the same time, combining them so it doesnt come out a clone of any one person. good advice i think.

anyway, not hating on this guy. many of his posts in the past have been on point. checked a couple of his tunes. one sounded exactly like burial to the point of being embarassing, the other didnt sound like burial at all. none of my business either way

and if u werent talking to me, then ignore me.

safe

Cheers for the announcement. Does stink of desperation though. Thought the tune you put up was was good. I even played it on my radio show. What kind of encouragement are you looking for if not that. I was the first dj to play Ikonika's tunes and look where she is now. I wouldn't play most of the stuff that gets put up in the dubs section for the very same reason that you give but, i was quite happy to play your's. If everyone let a few haters get to them and make them think twice about producing tunes we wouldn't have the music we listen to now. You need a little self belief mate.

the scene does tend to replicate itself a lot but is this a bad thing/ evolution takes time but i don't know, i'm just scared that dubstep will end up like drum and bass: a horrible mess of over-production that has lost all its soul.

Hope you keep producing, Roqqert.... You already have the production technique nailed, better than most. Don't worry about impressing forum people. 8)
