The wub wub sound is just a sine wav on your lfo! You might also get it via a triangle but thats about it. My TI has 69 waves including the "wub wub" I apply another of the 69 waves to it and you certainly dont get wub wub!

I dont use lfo's in the typical way either, short notes for instance with a lil filter attack and a bit of lfo pulls the end of each note up but doesnt give a wub. Just one way to use the dreaded lfo.... Just seems silly to say using lfo's aint original. I have 19 banks with 128 patches in each and at least half of them use lfo's

Dont be afraid of your lfo's, there is a reason they live on every synth known to man n it aint to get the wub wub sound lol

Yeah lfo's are cool - lfo's with speed change from a controller or from envelopes are way more interesting though. Very fast lfo set to retrigger a sample and then a controller affecting sample start can be very good for those old junglist timestretch effects too.

Far worse to hit the "cliche" button I think

Exactly...

Wobble is what it is, but one of the distinct characteristics of dubstep is the rhythm being moved from the drums to the bass. Drums are minimized, and the bass takes over the rhythmic control. Thats not hard and fast, but its a popular trend that makes dancefloors move.

Try the examples, the performer in MASSIVE gives far more control than a basic LFO, and its a lot more sequencer-like than just a "Wub-wub" LFO.

My fl piano is making the wobble sound when i press the keys, but when i and drag the piano roll but when i play it back it's just bass.

:D people have replaced wobbles with oscialating hoovers
now
but its still the same half step with shaker/zaps to make the tune move faster.

the fact that some people need a tutorial on how to make this simple sound just proves to me how widespread pirated software is around here..

i would think anyone who would spend ~$200 for Massive would already know at least something about LFO's and filters, as thats all the wobble is.

no offense towards anyone btw.

You would think...

But believe me... people buy PLENTY of shit they have no idea how to use.

i think the tutorial was a good idea coz now whenever someone asks 'how do i wobble' show em that, pretty easy to follow vid. I'm new to dubstep so i've still got a bit of wobble left in me but i can definately see how it pisses people off. The DNB scene at the moment is kinda the same but worse. u go into the breakbeat forum and every ones a tnuc towards people asking questions but there all making tunes that sound exactly the same. Dubstep community is far superior and tutorials n stuff like that just prove it.

yep, they all make tunes that sound the same and dont wanna give away their "secrets" of production. it's all a competition to them. thats how dubstep will be in a while if it just stagnates around the wobbling.

+ big up to the pirate doggie massive^

automation question

Hi thesynthesist,
Thanks for posting your youtube tutorial. Very helpful! Until now I've been making most of my wobbles in Reason and running that through rewire into Logic. Your video has helped me get into using Massive for my Bass for the first time. I've been reading the manual & trying to assign the sync'd LFO to the macro control, but I'm having a bit of trouble. Would you (or anyone) be kind enough to break it down for me, in a way an idiot can follow?
thanks, SLVA.

yo as far as i know you cant assign the macros to the LFO (or stepper/performer for that matter) when it is set to sync. take it off sync and then you can assign it. ive taken to recording audio output as i drag the sync'd rate up and down, or just taking the sync off all together.

This is one of the most awful oversights that ive seen in software in a while, especially since otherwise, Massive is the IDEAL synth for making fat bass sounds.

That being said, I have been pressuring NI to fix that. Who knows when it will actually be fixed, but if people can express their concern in this thread, it will REALLY help, believe it or not.

I will send the thread to the developers at Native, and if they see people talking about it, they will take it very seriously. If possible name other synths that do have this feature, like Reason.

theres loads of synths in the reaktor 5 library that can do this (instead of a text box its a knob that goes between different quantizations that you can automate)
