i'm not speaking for any artist and not specifically about those guys, but you should always ask first - you'd be surprised what people will and won't do. A lot of artists might prefer smaller gigs if the venue and vibe is good, and obviously will adjust their fee accordingly since you as the promoter simply won't be able to afford mega-bucks.

Of course some might just be out of your price range full stop, but if you don't ask...

Bassclef with his trombone, cowbells and fucked up radio doodad was totally badass. Live sets incorporate spontenaitey and humanity all the way through makin them a welcome change to straight up DJ sets. Live-O

Yes give it a go. People enjoy having an excuse for a trip to Brighton anyway and the Freebutt is a nice cosy venue, I saw some great gigs there back in my Brighton days. And Sam Shackleton at least is very approachable - you can but ask.

I can confirm how brilliant a Bass Clef set is - I've only seen him in the Social in London which was great but I'd REALLY love to see him somewhere a bit more grimey with a bigger rig. There's something about his sound that would be just incredible at 4am at a warehouse party.

Surprised nobody's mentioned Kode 9 & Spaceape's live set. Saw that for the first time at Meta Dub in the autumn - it's pretty mental!
