thats very true, its all well and good having the best monitors going but you might as well not bother if the acoustics of the room are shit.
i also use tannoy reveals, they are decent enuff speakers but sometimes the bass can play tricks on you? i would suggest getting some decent headphones - akg are pretty good at making pre studio phones but i doubt they are cheap.

KRK V8, Genelec 1031 (and 1038), NS10 (not for subs of course, but for general mixing. Would LOVE these:

I love KRK´s in general, however I haven´t tried that specific model. Go for it!

ive just picked up a set of KRK V6s and one of their new 10" subs. The quality in the low end is definately there. Amazing sound. Personally I thought the system sounded much better with the V6s rather than the V8s.

Designed to be accurate from very low volumes to very loud volumes. But you pay extra for that. Being able to make bass patches at 3am is worth it

dunno but i think Lemon D/Dilinja used to use variants of those Tannoys. You can see em in the background in the Talking Headz documentary.
They;ve got some similar Tannoys for about 350 and a much better pair with 15 inch drivers for 800 here too:
