Yes yes, it really depends on the tunes.

I run an electro / techno / breakbeat night called Joy.Pad around Bradford and Leeds which I DJ under the alias Le Son De Vogue. Have been really into electro / techno over the last 5 years but recently the current trends in electro and the tunes being released are shit. So many generic sounds which get pumped out and mass produced.

Personally I mix anything mainly French and also German, Soulwax and Justice remix's are filthy, and everything off Ed Banger label / Boys Noize and plenty of the god Mr Oizo!!! Also been playing around mixing Techno and Dubstep which the crowds go mental for, especially the regular attenders of our dubstep night R:evolve which I helped start and play regularly at alongside local names such as Ramadanman and Joffman. Will be posting a Techno Dubstep mix soon if anyones interested.

I'm not trying to wind anyone up here but doesn't it at least confuse some of you when electro house is called electro. Doesn't enyone else think of Streetsounds, Egyptian Lover, Drexciya etc? That said I like a lot of electro and minimal house, especially the bass heavy stuff that sounds like niche/speed garage..

I listen to minimal at home, not so into it for clubbing. I need a bit more OOMPH in the rave :)

I think this battle was lost a few years ago to be honest. Given people's love of coining sub-genres you would have though they could have come up with something better than stealing 'electro'.

I will however go and listen to a DJ Stingray mix in protest.

If you want some true-school electro, check out what's coming out of Manchester at the moment, especially the Bass Gun and Data Trace - www.data-trace.co.uk

They've got this great girl producer Teutonic Kaboom who mixes that 'real' electro with dubstep wobble, thus is great.

Seconding Petre Inspirescu, big things coming out of Romania. Rising star of minimal.

One of the sickest tunes of last year: sakadat http://mp3.juno.co.uk/MP3/SF275523-01-01-01.mp3

I really really really do love Sakadat. It's got the perfect amount of wonk, just like Please.
Never heard it out, I'd lose my shit if I did.

@ Joe Muggs: I'll check that stuff out, cheers.

I haven't heard it out either :( I never really go out to minimal things, just because in Glasgow they're in the arches and attended primarily by pill-out bams who could give a shit whether it was Carl Craig or Carl Cox on the ones and twos :x

There were some really nice nights called Black Rabbit Whorehouse in Glasgow which were a much better vibe than your average Arches night, but I think they stopped.
I know what you mean though, I went to see Alex Under at Pressure, and it was full of topless neds on each others shoulders swinging tshirts and yelling "here we fucking go". Wasn't quite what I expected.

Alex Smoke seems to be involved in this new night Kapital in Edinburgh, but I'm not sure when it's on next. Oh and another one called Dirt. Be funny if Edinburgh started getting better than Glasgow.

Black rabbit whorehouse still goes on occasionally I think, it's twitch and wilkes frae Optimo. They call minimal/microhouse etc. "whorehouse", after an akufen track I think.

Alex Under and Derrick May played Pressure last night and I just went home straight from the pub. Not quite right!
