and my bro has the pdx2000s, which are unrivalled (apart from pdx3000 or qfo maybe) for scratching. great for mixing once you get used to how sensitive they are

i don't understand why my brother bought these decks when he only mixes drum and bass. he doesn't scratch, beat juggle or mix hip hop. he just beat mixes dnb. i think he made a mistake buying these decks for the purpose of straight mixing, he should have got technics imo. when you mix at a club, they have technics, so it makes sense to have them at home too i would have thought.

i don't own technics. they are great but not worth the money, because i'd only get mk5gs if i got some - and they are a fucking rip off! i'd say if you just want to mix records, get 1210s, if you want to scratch or beatjuggle, obviously get vestax, because they don't like skipping!

Mixing on vestax is like mixing on a fucking laptop, once that shit is locked its locked ALL DAMN DAY.

I've had Vestax pdx2300 pros (though you probably cant find em easily) for like 5 years and they're still rocking out. I *personally* feel that the vestax table is a superior table. BUT most people don't have the skills (read: willingness) to play on a better built table because of the tighter torque on the platter. The ultrapitch, and reverse is dope. Playing on techs without these features, when you're used to them, is lame. The fact that people say that they're plastic like its a bad thing is absolute bullshit. They're rock solid. Many many hiphop djs swear by them.

I bought my pair as a replacement to an *old* pair of geminis and the only regret is that I used them exclusively for years before really playing out - so i had to adjust to Techs. Parties I played out, it was usu. with my vestax or friends' vestax. After the tightness of vestax, Techs just feel....er.. "sloppy". Now I have rinsed out lots on Numarks and Techs and its no thang. I'll probably eventually get a pair of techs just to play with my friends on when they're over , for 4x4's and such.

If you want a competitively priced table for home that WILL last and is amazing for mixing, then look into vestax IMO.

If you are planning on playing out alot, then Techs are probably your best bet for translating your mixing skills.

The main issue i have with technics, and these are based on the MK2 1210's is the dodgy quartz lock. I dont mean the 0% lock i mean the motor pitch lock.

Its like if you put your finger on the platter to slow it down the motor will pulse and speed up to compensate. So your there trying to slow it down 1 tiny fraction and instead the fucker decides it wants to speed up. So you need to give it quite a strong touch which people can hear.

Being a perfectionist my mixing style means i constantly want to touch the tables to get it perfect, with vestax even the smallest touch means you get an effect without it being noticable to the listeners.

Its something you can hack just by cutting some resistor inside the deck but it pisses me off no end.

one funny thing about the vestax straight tonearm: it's a little bit shorter in length than technics. the first time i played on the vestax, i automatically would reach my finger down to pull the needle, and inevitably, i had reached to where it would have been on a technics, and not a vestax.

it was kinda comedic watching me grasp air for a moment until i realized where the headshell thingy really was.

Haha I've heard quite a few people say that actually! I have to admit I would like some personal time with a Vestax, but the fact they are plastic is a massive thing to me. They may be built like bricks like someone said but I don't want lego blocks haha!

Absolutely not trying to single you out, but in general - *please don't pass judgment on something before you have experience with it*. The "plastic" is actually high quality moulded polyacetal that works towards with reduced vibrations from the environment AND reduction of feedback - both drawbacks of metal. THE THINGS ARE FUCKING TANKS haha.

I didnt comment on the feel of them whilst mixing\scratching I commented on the fact they are plastic which I am allowed to do as I have seem them and "touched" them and know they are plastic! High quality plastic is still plastic, and I do see it as a negative Im afraid!

If you have to move it so much that your listeners hear something. You were to far off to begin with, no matter your deck.

Tehnics or Vestax, maybe Tehnics is better

Yeah big up matey! They're the turntables I have and dont regret the money spent. After another 2 or 2 MK5s as I wanna start getting 4 decks on the go!

Got a Xone92 and feel I aint pushing it to its full potential! Then all I need is a laptop and Ableton and I can put the midi to use aswell! Nothing will be stopping me then!
