Yeah, I know I'm a bit late on this one, but only just spotted the thread amongst all the dozens of others.
Just wanted to share a Dekker story with you...
He Came to Cambridge last year, almost about this time, as part of the city Council's 'Big Day Out' PR jobs that they do this time of year (Got the Afro Cuban Allstars coming this year - Looking forward to that!).
There was so many heads in the audience, anyone who was anyone in town came along to see the man do his stuff, although he did play a bit of cheesy old skool pop to appease the masses, but I'll forgive him that.
Anyways, the show ended, and I was just wandering about aimlessly afterwards, then got wind of him signing autographs and chatting to punters 'round the back of the stage - I was back there like a shot!!
The only thing I had on me for him to sign was this A4 jotter pad (I always carry one to scribble down poetry and lyrics in), so I got it out, got the man's autograph, shook his hand and showered him with compliments - and was the last person in town that night to do so, as security shut the fence after me and that was that.
My only regret is that I never got a photo of him with me (no camera with me), but apart from that, mission accomplished!
So, yeah, R.I.P. Soul Brother and Superstar, nice to meet you, however brief it was.
I'll never forget that moment.
