And yesterday I ordered myself a tent, rucksack, sleeping bag,
self-inflating mat and an inflatable pillow. Got a bit excited like!

I now realise it's over 4 months away.

Loved every single minute of last year, appart from when 'The Dub *cough* cockends *cough* Pistols' did a soundcheck during Mala & Poke's set. The look on Mala's face said it all 'how very unprofessional', I'm sure he was thinkin!

steward or campaigner, you must be 18 or over on the first day you volunteer with us, and you will be required to work 3 shifts during each festival. When you submit your application you will be required to pay a £165 refundable deposit by credit or debit card. Please see the Details tab on the Stewards homepage to find out the information you need to apply.

£165 thats about the same price as a ticket, I'm considerin paying that deposit and then fuckin them off, throwing the orange high-vis jacket in the bin, and go listen to some music.

Bestival are announcing more 'volenteer jobs' soon though, if its a couple of hours behind the bar or in one of then tents (listening to music) I wouldnt mind doin a few shifts, depending on what acts I miss.

Yes I thought that too. Fucking rubbish. Mala and pokes were spot on and the crowd were loving it. Never seen a tent empty so fast as when they finished and the dubpistols came on. Well maybe when Mr Scruff played the 12am set on the saturday in the dance tent at the big chill a couple of years ago, 3000 pilled up people really want to dance to coffee morning music during the headline slot on the saturday in dance area at a festie...

yea i am working with DCSS there. I don't think you can just ditch resposibilities due to wristbands etc. Im repping the high vis during the dubstep fo shiz. Its not all that bad, you don't have to do that much work and it makes the festival totally free, and you meet some great people you wouldn't otherwise as you'd probably be off your rocker. Glastonbury "green police" was one of the jokesest things i have done, plus i didn't get wet

what's wrong with mr scruff. I remember being totally off my head to one of his sets and it was just amazing. Any artist that promotes tea and cupcakes (whilst onstage no less) is a don in my book. And what is coffee music?

It was not the time nor the place for his scruffery. I've got no problem with tea and cupcakes but the effect of his DJing on 3000 people who'd been having the time of their lives up until that point was not good. IT'S THE DANCE TENT SCRUFF, WHY HAVE YOU MADE EVERYONE STOP DANCING?

i guess his trouserjazz music is not for everyone- a bit like tea. Still, I love the quirkyness and strange edits that he gets going- seeing him at koko in may...but then i really dig lemonjelly and all that kind of stuff so maybe its just me.

The BigChill 2 years before that one, best pills I ever had, coming up on the first one as I walked back down the hill towards the main stage. Lemon Jelly opened up with something live and utterly filthy, fucking amazing it was.

Yeh definitely one of the best line ups for a british festival, in terms of all kinds of music. Pity it is in September and I will be in the southern hemisphere. Wish I was going..

Yeah I dont mind workin a few shifts in high vis lol, as long as I get to see some good acts and only if when I'm not workin I can look like this guy from last years pics

yea you can do it as a group, as long as you put down a deposit together. You could work at all the above festivals for one deposit of about 130 quid if you wanted to, as long as you dont volunteer in good time and don't fuck about. Its interesting for me cos most english festivals arent great (especially when it comes to weather and prices and glastonbury this year jay z headlining need i say more?!) anyway and its nice to see the event management side of things, whilst getting to attend and see the acts you want to. I pay for festies abroad and go off my face at them nowadays after more recent experiences; cheapers, nicer, more interesting experiences.

EDIT- i dont know about oxfam stewarding (though at festivals i have seen them in the tents just to check over the crowd which means they get to see some music ) but the best positions to work in are "green team" officers. Bestival and glastonbury has them- did it for the latter last year and you just have to go around telling people not to piss in the river and dispose of litter properly- it beats actually picking up the litter on monday morning or anything like that and is actually quite jokes due to the number of people you meet.

Yeah I think I'm defo goin apply for this, the work even looks quite fun, its not exactly hard graft like putting the arena/stages up.
Can you be specific in what festivals you want to go to. eg just bestival or just glastonbury?

im working @ Reading as a CAT (campsite assistant team). Was going to go Bestival with DCSS but that is now full and i still havent payed deposit so might wait for more info on the green team or do oxford stewarding for something a bit different, if I can. Not doing glasto this year, but also trying to get some sort of work at gatecrasher SSS next month if i can.

Looking to go to EXIT in Serbia, maybe Benicassim again in Spain and Boom festival (wierd psytrance thing in Portugal) as a paying customer...i don't really care about the music too much here- more the experience.
