lol?
Myself and a few other friends got together and built a box (4 core processor, 8GB of ram, 500GB of raid 1 backed storage) and split it up into a bunch of virtual machines. The box is colocated with rapidswitch in maidenhead, who seem to be a pretty good bunch.
omgc.at is my virtual machine, which freedubs is running on.

Ours is at BlueSquare which is near Heathrow I think. We got very good speeds...shame now that there is always someone listening or downloading something that we only get those speeds at night time
Yeah, as I wrote in a message a few posts back, there seems to be a problem where some browsers don't log in properly the first time, and want you to do it twice. I'm trying to find the solution, but currently you can work around it by just logging in again after the first failed login. Please let me know if doing this doesn't work.Von wrote:I just tried to sign up.. sent me a PM on ere but the password doesnt seem to be right for the page.
Hmm.
In the mean time, I've added a message to the login page to make sure everyone knows this.
Waaay ahead of yougaston_UK wrote:wikid idea, i'll sign up tonight.

Yeah, it makes it much much cheaper. I ended up paying about 150 quid initially for the machine, and now 8 quid a month for the hosting (and we get 3TB of transfer, so it's a pretty sweet dealAshley wrote: Nice, I wish I had some friends ready to chip in on a system like that, at the moment its just me and my pocket

Do you lot find yourselves getting through a lot of bandwidth?

Unmetered 10mbit with burstable 100mbit (not sure how much though) I should really put some bandwith monitoring on it but cos its windows I will have to restart the network interfaces.simian wrote:Yeah, it makes it much much cheaper. I run more than a website on the server though, IRCd and other services like TeamSpeak etc so always have about 100 people connected.
We also have a dreamhost account which we are going to rape for its 9tb bandwith quota.
Wow, that's a pretty hefty connectionAshley wrote:Unmetered 10mbit with burstable 100mbit (not sure how much though) I should really put some bandwith monitoring on it but cos its windows I will have to restart the network interfaces.simian wrote:Yeah, it makes it much much cheaper. well, it's colo, and its 8 quid after it has been split up between us. I think it's about 6 quid or something in total?neka wrote: 8 quid a month for a dedi? :O
PM me about the html/css templates, i can give it a shot.
Here are the templates!
https://omgc.at/freedubs_templates.tgz
They're written in html, with data filled in using the Django templating language, although to do the design stuff you probably don't really need to understand it, other than to know that base.html is getting wrapped round everything else, and currently all the CSS is in there.
If you've got a unix box somewhere where you could install django, i'd be happy to give you the code base, which means you could try out the design on a copy of the site.
Thanks for the interest, and let me know if there is anything else I can do!
nice one!

I know its better to pick one hole in yourself than a thousand in others but its always easier to spot other peoples mistakes so here are is some constructive criticism;
On the users panel, the green is very hard to read, even with anti-aliasing turned off.
An upload progress indicator could be nice. Achievable using Ajax.
On the upload form, it tells me one of the fields is too long but doesn't say which, this could be done via JavaScript validation rather than wasting time uploading a file that will go nowhere.
I like the way you use the PM system on these forums to activate accounts - however, seems a bit of a faff and what happens when this forum gets the "bandwidth exceeded" message every couple of months?
People have commented about the overall design, I personally like it however I feel it is more suited towards nerd culture as it reminds me of a command line interface. Possibly making the darker grey slightly darker and options to increase font size would be better. Not sure if you ever studied web accessibility and section 508 etc
