Yeah I would say it's turning heads right now. I have recently become realy interested in the sound after only being vaugly aware of it in the past few years. I blame Burial and all this sweet techy stuff coming thru for the interest from outside of the scene.

the 'dub' in dubstep was always an afterthought, which then became perceived as a core aesthetic due to the 'dub' in the name.

You're arugment is no different to someone saying "what's with all this dub influence in dark instrumental garage? If I wanted to listen to dub I would wanna listen to the real thing not some bait dub-garage fusion or any other shit fusions for that matter."

and we'd never have dubstep if people took that kind of attitude and were frightened of new things.

Exactly without this kind of cross genre pollination we wouldn't have Dubstep. I know that it isn't just some mash up of different styles but you couldn't have DS without everything which went before it.

tbh a lot of the dubbier and "nitty gritty" side of dubstep is what i'm not really feeling in dubstep atm. thankfully though there's a wealth of other stuff around if you have a good dig
