I've got a Tobias Schmidt white from 99/00 that has an actual (125/130 odd bpm) dubstep track on it. I can't find it at the moment, think it might be on Nest 2 though. Those guys were always pushing bass driven techno, and that's all dubstep is, surely? I've played records from the Sativa label in a few dubstep sets, and i'm pretty sure the kids didn't notice I was playing 10 year old techno. Also, Unknown Dialect and Spacemen Two from the Restoration EP (Mosquito) are pretty much dubstep, albeit way too slow to mix at 140bpm.

Well, people were talking about Landstrumm pioneering bass-driven techno, and Kirk was doing it at least half a decade before. Fuck, I'm gonna throw out the claim that he was close to making dubstep in 1974 (some of that stuff on the Attic Tapes...)

Landstrumm is awesome, seen him DJ twice now and its dancefloor carnage. Techno-dusbtep hybrid mixing done properly.

He is performing live at the planet mu party in April, really cannot wait.

I remember Peel use to play him all the time. 'Brown by August' I think was the first time I became aware of his stuff. Only got one old Tresor record of his "Understanding Disinformation" some good tunes on that but not really a record I listened to much. Overall got to say the stuff he's released on Mu hasn't really grabbed me though.

neil landstrumm live is truly a treat if you get the chance. i had the pleasure of seeing him in a warehousey club in detroit and he absolutely boiled my brain.

all those shiny little boxes. *sigh* the man never lets the same beat ride too long. variation and movement. big.
