a little bit.

i think its important as a dj to know how tracks work and why sounds work or why techniques work or dont work.

like i said it does come down to how it sounds in the end , but to just write off knowing the techniqal side of things imo is doing a great diservice to ones self.
If you feel a mix is working do it - doesn't matter whether you 'think' it might work or not. Its the quantizing of the percussion etc (and key) that make 2 tracks mix well (or not) - and the vibe of a crowd can make a mix or break it.

this was really hard to do - so so unnatural. not exactly what you asked for but you get the idea. headhunter bass coming in the middle of the bar...

i much prefered the nish nish mix! fuck man if i was busy counting beats in two records simultaneously, i wouldnt be able to concentrate on what the next tune would be, wouldnt be able to guage how the crowd was reacting, and would probably end up screwing the mix up in the first place! Seriously though, blend em in the headphones till it sounds good, then start the mash together. Theres enough space in this music we all love and love to allow for the odd snare to be out of place, and completely new rhythms to be concocted by a mix thats done on the off beat...to much perfection and yr gonna sound like you mix with a computer programme!

Just think of how the tunes would be laid out in a seqeuncer and if you had the two tunes layered over each other how the beats would line up.

There aint no special technique, its the same as mixing a house tune with another house tune.

For me mixing is as much feeling the mix rather than listenin to specific parts of the tune though this is helpful. It's all about being able to judge the space.

It's a little weird that you DJ and produce without understanding basic music theory dude...

i don't mix any specific hit together, just the whole rhythm... obviously you can't mix half step and full step on the snares cos the beats just won't line up correctly....

i'm sure this has been said ten times already

peace
