Now laugh at me, i'm just getting started with electronic music, but what's wrong with Sennheiser PX-200 portable headphones? I think they sound awesome.

The problem is that everything sounds awesome, even when it isn't ;)

So what would be a good headphone amp if you only need to power one set of cans, no submixes/bells/whistles etc ?

Depends on the cans - check on your cans' impedance as they may not definiteively need one.

If they do; Meier Corda XXS :)

HD650s are also very nice, albeit a bit expensive. Similar to the HD600s apparently. I found mine slightly cheaper than the 600s so bought, but didnt listen first...

Im v happy with them, details are insane ! finally heard some vocal samples in TPowers self evident truth id never heard.

I got them with the Meier Corda Arietta. Now i flick between them and the mackie monitors, and when it sounds great on both i know its pretty good :6:

Can I rent your neighbour?
Mine is deaf also to the side of me. Upstairs I have a bunch of really noisy blokes who often come down and say sorry for the noise. Even tho I had a party the night before or I had been mixing all night:/

I need better speakers, Alesis mk1's are a pile of wank.

For referencing:

AKG K701

Pros: Super detailed, super realistic sound, no gain boost or anything like it
Cons: Might need a headphone amp

~$250

I have gone through tons of pairs of different headphones, I will only use these from now on. Maybe some grados, but I am not a huge fan.

I am using AKG K702. I would like to add...

Prons: open backed, very comfy. Easy on the ears good for long sessions. Looks cool as fuck.

k701 - they are probably cheap only because they are clearing them out for the 702's. 702's usually retail at 450usd but can be found much cheaper.

Cons: Need a headphone amp if you are using a portable device or laptop. Can get away without one otherwise. I am saving up for one tho!

Highly recommended.

I got SkullCandy Hesh headphones.
Do you think they're good enough for a beginner?
I mean I'm quite satisfied by their quality, but I'm no professional.

I'm saving my pennies for the some hd650s and a headphone amp. I really shouldn't have tried them out i knew it would harm my future income.

Listen to your cans through that thing. Sound good? Leave it. A headphone amp ain't going to hurt you but it may hurt your pocket book. If you have the $$ and nothing else you need then go for it.

i havn't yet bought my phones yet, still in two minds between the 650's and 702's.... leaning towards the 702's tbh.

i just found this article which has got some good links too - Should I buy a Headphone Amp?
