and I'd say I know my dubstep pretty well, I didn't even start out listening to the 'club friendly' stuff...
first tune that got me into dubstep was a Loefah tune, a while back.
and I went on from there...

perhaps I'm takin the thread the wrong way, but
I don't think that all the younger peeps who listen to dubstep just like Caspa & Rusko, etc. although there are those people, and there always will be - and its not just 'youths'.

Sorry if i didnt make it clear, i was not meaning all of the kids, and yes it was unfair to say most of them
i agree that dubstep wouldn't be where it is if it wasnt for the kids! no doubt about it!
and to the bloke above, he is my nephew

If you're 13 and you're into caspa and rusko then that's fucking good work.

I really like their fabric mix, the first two thirds of it anyway.

i guess, im 13 and now all my mates are into cockney thug and fabric37 stuff, and it gets annoying coz dey all think its dnb, i first got into dubstep after hearing jamie vista on pirate and now im into all types of dubstep, and i cant stop rinsin out Vexd!

I've been promoting for a few years now, and the night I run has recently started attracting a hell of a lot more younguns than previously. Coincidentally we had Rusko play at the last one (alongside about 20 other acts), yet a disproportionate number of the kiddies were saying that they had come pretty much just to see him.

I'm not sure this is a bad thing though tbh, if it gets them into the clubs, and that in turn exposes them to other sounds too then its all good IMO. Also, Both Caspa and Rusko have played ridiculously heavy sets and really got the place going so I definitely can't complain there.

I've often thought it's quite likely that the popularity of this kind of sound amongst young kids in particular has got a lot to do with the fact that many of them can't get into clubs, and therefore don't really get the opportunity to appreciate Dubstep on a big rig. You can't deny that a lot of the Rusko type sound works much better on systems that lack bass / home set ups etc. Than some of the deeper more sub dependant productions of other folks do.

why can't clubs just lower the age limit?
i guess it is partially to do with people like you said, that just big up caspa and rusko and are actual dickheads, and i suppose about drugs and alcohol too, but it does piss me off that i can't go and see music because i am 'too young'.
only major reason i see is that if everyone in club is over 18 then no id at the bar.

Clubs can and do do under-18s nights, but obviously promoters are less likely to do this because profits for clubs depend on bar take as much as on door price so there's just less money in it... Often the only way to get this going is for an enterprising youngster to get it going themselves. Talk to a local club owner and see if they'd be interested. One thing that young promoters can do is suggest doing an all-dayer at the weekend - that might perk a club-owner's interest as it's a time when they'd otherwise be shut so it's not eating into their profits by replacing a night with an older crowd....

I'm 23, some older mates gave me the education on jungle. Started listening to jungle age 10. Then D+B, garage, grime, now dubstep. So I couldn't say when I started listening to dubstep, just progression. I'm not surprised bout seeing a lot of youngers at nights. Dubsteps new in the context of how its being promoted and I'd have jumped on the waggon if I was a teen again.

nail on the head.

its club/rave music designed for big systems. so if your under 18 and only open to limited exposure than its easy to see how caspa and rusko tunes can become the default. its easy to consume.

but that said im sure there are some youts who enjoy the genre for what it full is even tho they cant reach raves.
