Nice! See there is so much room for creativity in all those pitch-bends and time-sig changes that are part of "that sound" :)

An excellent point, and I think that some people should realise that while being a purist can be a good thing, there comes a moment where you need to let the fresh air in - listen to something outside your usual musical reference points, and you might come back to what you had previously thought was stale or going nowhere and realise there are more possibilities than you think in it!

From going out to nights from early on the wobble tracks used to be mixed up with the deeper tracks, halfstep, more rhythmic, melodic etc and used to have more of an impact due to that.

Nowadays there are certain artists who seem to just play towards the big drop, and to get the impact that used to be gained by mixing it up, it's just each tune building to a bigger and bigger drop, analogous to when jump-up jungle became big, and it's probably no surprise that some of the the artists making this music have a D&B background, and also the audience for it.

'Those who can't be named' are the most high profile exponents of this strain of dubstep and have been majorly responsible for exposing it to a greater audience and thus it's increasing popularity and hence are the most obvious targets for the ire of people, especially when Rusko in particular is talented and has made some great tunes, but seems to be wasting that talent (to my ears anyway).

For me saying you hate wobble is almost a shorthand way of saying (without naming any names) that you hate these tunes which try and "destroy the dancefloor" or whatever through funny noises and an understanding of the synths used, as opposed to something alot more musical.
So "musical" elements - by which I'm guessing that means melodics and harmonics - are by nature superior to something that is more about rhythm and sculpting with sound?
Hmm, sorry I might have used the wrong word there. Melodics/harmonics are just as often present in a "wobble" based tune as any other. In fact I would almost say more so! Rusko couldn't be a better example!

What I mainly meant by "musical" was the rhythmic/construction side of things. Like for example the way that Mala can create such intense energy in a beat that just...doesn't seem to work! New life baby paris is a prime example, that beat is all over the place! It takes a while to kind of figure the groove of it, but once its in...jeeeeeesus :D Then take a martyn or a TRG or a toasty tune or something, to boil it down to its simplest, there is something about the rhythm inherent in just about everything they seem to touch that just makes me lose it! And I think theres a massive amount of musical/rhythmic knowledge and understanding behind the creation of these beats that is sorely lacking in so many of the big wobblers on the scene.

Basically, I think when it comes down to it my argument is that the term "wobblers" implies alot more than just an LFO assigned to a filter cut off. Its the way that certain tunes seem to rely on it for pretty much all the impact of a tune, forgetting about the elements of rhythm/construction that to me are more important in a tune than anything.

In fact, in writing that last paragraph I think I came to another conclusion that the reason I might give for not liking "wobbles", is that the presence of one often seems to be associated with an allowance to forget about the rest of what goes behind making something that will make me dance! (Then theres producers who seem to be able to find the best in both worlds. I mean, take Skream - Rottan. Pure unadulterated wobble, but he didn't seem to leave it at that. Its just one of many parts of the tune that all do what I want em to...make me flail uncontrollably :D)

First night of fwd at the end. Me and my mates pushed through the queue towards the front cos the queue was mental and we definitely wouldnt have got in. as we were passing through i overheard some trendy little twats who werent badman enough to push through saying that to eachother (unrelated to us actually pushing in front of them - i dont think they even noticed that).

Can't people just make music?

Surely if people are making tunes they enjoy making and others happen to have a listen and a proportion of those enjoy it, then that's what it's all about?

You can't please all the people all of the time and in a genre like dubstep, which has its fair share of anal-retentives, unless you're doing something truly groundbreaking/obscure, or you've been about for ages, you're gonna get moaned at.

For me it's a case of "wobble for wobble's sake" vs "wobble as part of the ensemble of the tune". Wobble's great but only when it lends itself to the tune rather than the other way round.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, shite by whose standards?

I like how the people who (not necessarily you) bitch about what "true" dubstep heads should like impose your views on others just as much as the people you're trying to criticize. There's no absolute "bad" or "good" when it comes to music. I personally a fan of wobble, though I could understand how people may not be into it. :/
