Yes, Reaper is not for everyone, but it shits on the freeware* competition

*(Reaper isn't actually freeware, but an unrestricted evaluationware until you decide to buy a license for it)

But yes, if you can stand using a tracker then Shortcircuit is for you!

For the rest of us, (or those just getting into music production), the easier the gui the better.

Ultimately, this pack is provided as is and is a collection of software I personally find useful and easy to use. What could be done is to take some of it and use it with other more prefered software in your arsenal!

Installed this on my laptop about a month ago and its quality!!!

It was good learning a new Sequencer and Reaper is very good and didn't rape my CPU!

bump! this is definitely a great bundle! gotta say that renoise has all this too. it's not free, but you can load it off a thumb drive and it works on windows, os x, and linux. good shit though man.

I'm finding myself being pretty clumsy using reaper, I've made some really nice sounds but don't really know what I'm doing and it's a bit hard to visualise what you're playing. Are there shortcut keys to the sequencer you're using, the piano roll and what's the deal with recording automation?

Yeah man, Renoise seems to be fairly popular around here.

Watched a link of some French dude doing some mad glitch stuff with it.

I remember the very first computer music program I saw was on my pals Atari. It was also a tracker, and thinking about it now, it was sort of like watching the 'green digital rain' effect from the Matrix!

Being clumsy - Try switching off snapping?!! to turn it on or off, left click on the button in the top left corner next to the 'padlock' button. Right click on the same button for snapping & quantise options etc.

Piano Roll - Go to the 'Insert' menu, next choose 'new midi item'. Double click on the block that comes up to bring up the piano roll.

Visualising - Go to 'view' menu and click 'show navigator'

Automation can be done in two ways. The first is deep and I don't really know how its done. the second is easy and works like this. On every sequencer track, just to the left of the 'FX' button, there is a button called 'ENV'. This brings up the automation options for that track. Click on an option, then draw in the automation directly on the sequancer lane.

Cetainly!

I presume your having difficulty loading up samples?

To load samples, first click on a number (which will be highlighted in red), then click on the 'folder' icon just to the left of where it says 'No Sample'. No live preview which sucks, but you can preview the sample by clicking on the numbered slot.

To trigger sample slot '1', hit C3 on your midi keyboard. (although this can be changed to create multi layered samples

I'd also recommend reading the manual which can be found in the folder you installed the VSTi .dll file. (It creates itself after the first time you've run Arachnid in a VST capable host ie, Reaper)

I'm still finding Reaper a bit awkward (not dissing the package you've put together). I'm still getting some nice sounds but obviously need to use it for a while, does anyone use this as their main bit of software? Or anyone used it for a long time?
