Saw the thread title and thought this was going to be about The Future Sound of London. TSEL is not FSOL, not even close in fact.

Thank you both for pointing out where keys on my keyboard are. In all my years of typing I've never been able to tell one from another. Your posts, nay you're entire being has been a build up to that singular moment where you were both able to point out to me that the S key and the F key are in fact not one in the same.

So again thank you both for your 3 posts to that effect. Truely I would be lost in this world without you telling me that I made a typo.

Seeing as you responded so well to the pointing out of a typo, I'm sure that you'll be grateful to me for picking out this tiny little error.

Together we can make you a better typer.

I taught in Japan for a year with the company NOVA. It was a great experience and I made good money. This thread is making me think about the possibility of doing it again. If you get a TEFL there should be a lot more options for where you can teach vs. just having a degree.

do you have to be fairly competent in your pupils first language?

Not at all. I only knew survival Japanese. If your student can't speak a lick of english, you will most likely be teaching them how to say 'my name is....' very basic shit.

yeah my brother did this but ditched them because he said they were
known as NOVA(cation). then he applied for some smaller independant
teaching jobs and boom 6 years later hes
still there and marrying a japanese girl this spring.

i recently read an article in the guardian about people teaching
abroad in places like hong kong, china and dubai.
it said you could earn over £20,000
tax free (or max 5% tax) plus they pay for flights and accomodation and bills!!

does anyone know if having a PGCE helps much in your employability
and earning potential or do only the TEFL courses hold any sway?

You might still need the tefl but I know you can work for the british consulate if you also have a PGCE, effectivly means you can teach anywhere in the world and still get paid the British wage!

also PGCE will help with any tefl job, def help you get the higher paid ones
