[quote="nowaysj" And what is w/ Benga's Diary of an Afro Warrior? That stuff always sounds too loud to me. Like if I'm listening to it mixed w/ other stuff, I've always gotta turn the Benga tracks down? [/quote

If you want some interesting reading/viewing, Google "loudness wars" there's loads of it. I also say a few words on the subject in this months Knowledge Mag.

"I've owned a lot of stereos in my life, and they have all had a large volume dial right in the centre. It's usually the biggest thing on there & is easy to use - just turn it" Quote from mastering legend Bob Katz.

Talbz Beatz"]I'm assuming you have to send them the original rns file?

how do you make sure they master it right though...? cos you can master music for clubs, radio, vinyl, etc, and then theres different ways of mastering for different genres.
nice 1
Attend the session,Its the only way to guarantee perfect communication. And once you have built up a relationship you do not need to attend. As the original poster is in Australia then i suggest plenty of emails with the actual engineer who will be mastering your tune. It`s important that you give him the mixes as requested.
Good Luck

Sorry for the blatant self-pimping (I'm not the only Mastering engineer on this thread doing it though eh?)

Just got this nice quote through from Richard Rogers, Ex-Head of A&R for Warner Chapell/International consultant/manager/owner of Music 2 Deal etc. etc. etc.

"In my 25 years within the Music Industry as an A&R man, producer, songwriter, record company owner, lecturer and consultant i've had the opportunity of working with some excellent Mastering Engineers. Lawrence I can safely say is one of the best. His understanding of mastering coupled with his easy going approach, flexibilty and quality of work at a decent price make him an absolute treasure to work with in his particular field. I can't recommend him enough." - Richard Rogers www.maltamusiccourses.com

Thought I'd share :)

Not big names in the mastering game but Claw and Symbl do a ton of work for digi dubstep labels. I have always been happy with the work of each of them and they won't break your bank. They probably aren't going to perform any miracles but I would hope your tune doesn't need a miracle if you are actually going to release it. Just my 2 cents. These big names do a wonderful job but it is a luxury in todays world of very little profit.

if anyone is interested , I'm mastering tunes.....please note , this is only for tunes to be played via CD or MP3 / Software etc and NOT mastering for vinyl

Basically heres the deal.....

its £10 per track [very cheap imo!]

All you have to do is send me your un-mastered tune and then I will give it the final polishes and vital mastering techniques to get your tune up to scratch with the BIG tunes and make them suitable to play on BIG sound systems and in the clubs! (please note , this is only if the tune is sounding good in the first place , we all know the sayin - can't polish a turd !)

What I'll do is send you examples - before and after clips...and then if you want your tune mastered by me , you pay me £10 via paypal and I'll send you the mastered tune ! simple as !

previous clients include - MK2 (stupid fly records) / Tha Freeform (Sequence Recordings)

Also , if anyone wants to get an idea of what my mastering is like , just check out my releases etc - http://www.myspace.com/teksteppa

Everything there is mastered by myself

My service is very suitable to the up+coming Dubstep producers out there that want to give their tracks that 'extra shine' and make them loud and suitable for testing out in the club , without getting embarrased by their tracks not hitting the right frequencies and being the quietest tune in the set!!!!

If anyone is interested or has any questions , PM for details

Many thanks !

Heathmans went into administration last year. Beau left there ages ago, and now works at Masterpiece (cuts most of Tempa's stuff these days as someone mentioned). Shane from Heathmans has now set up the business under a diff name which escapes me at the moment....

In the UK your options are Transition, Masterpiece, The Exchange, Optimum, Liquid (cheap!), and the new Heathmans, amongst a handful of others...
just to add... the new Heathmans is called, Finyl Tweak, and Shane the cutter is still there...

Shane and Beau (@ masterpiece) get my vote as the best cutting engineers in the country for dance music :D

Yes Beau mastered my upcoming album, he is a great guy - very informative and took the time to explain everything step by step. Best mastering session i've attended. He was finishing a N Type track and also does stuff for Caspa amongst others. I was most impressed at the d&b stuff he does too (he used to release stuff as Intense back in the day) including Instra:mental and D Bridges album.

Don't worry it was all good stuff.

Seriously top bloke though, he was actively encouraging me to give dnb ago, even offered to cut me some free dubs and give them out to his regular crew. Its damn rare someone offers to do something like that!
