unfortunately this just won't happen, not in dubstep or any other scene where producers make money from records - that would be people giving away part of their livelihood for free, like a mechanic agreeing to do all MOTs for free or something...

you may get a lot of unknown/unsigned producers and even 'smaller' signed artists giving away tunes for free in the dubstep scene, but you're not going to see Skream or Mala willingly giving away their latest beats online. Yes, the odd bootleg or old beat gets let out occasionally (e.g. Skream's 4-yr old Almighty Father mix), but that's it for the 'bigger' artists...

there are a few reasons - they would be competing with their own releases which they're expecting people to pay for, they lower the perceived value of their 'product', they lose money as above etc.

That said, I'm not arguing that there's a lot of good vibes in the scene - that's what keeps me involved if I'm honest - so many of your 'famous' names in dubstep are utterly sound, approachable and generous people. Even me. 8) :6:

I spent some time working at a nightclub in San Diego where we had dnb, house, breaks and hiphop shows

(all on different nights of course)

The nicest people were in the house scene, pretty genuine and cool headed (this doesn't apply to the KC house scene)

then the breaks people were usually mong'd out on mdma or something but were generally a mellow, easy going lot

now then we have the dnb crowd...

most of them were attitude heavy and pretentious, like "our shit don't stink".

they hardly tipped and if they did it was minimal. The bartenders hated those nights

HIPHOP usually 10 times worse than the dnb crew

*I should also disclose I was a hiphop promoter and I am still a dnb promoter

my fav nights are the dubstep nights

mostly ego-free crowds just in it to hear music and have fun

I dig where the scene is right now (at least in the city I live in)

to generalise, generalisation is not a very useful tool. :?

yeah I hear that

but I was going off the overall vibe I got from being in the club every night

and I was security there so I had a finger on the pulse of what was really going on (drugs, fights, the tips, etc...)

fights were usually during the dnb or the hiphip shows

My brother lived in SD for a while and couldn't stand the DnB scene there. I've only been to a few one offs but he didn't have very good to say about the general scene there. Not the 1st time I've heard that.
