once i opened my window and played my track really loud and went onto the road outside to get a different veiw on it.....
lmao, I do the same thing sometimes if I'm starting to make a track I'm feeling..put it on loop, turn it up and walk around the house and such to see how it sounds....stand up and back away a bit first, then the bathroom, hallway, downstairs..lmfao

lets me know if the track is really bumpin or not

I'm beginning to either play video games or watch movies I've already seen while producing, helps me just let my creativity out rather than sitting down and trying to FORCE something out, but it's a movie I've already seen or a game I'm just fucking around on so I don't have to worry about missing out if I stop for a minute to add something to the track
I do that shit too. I think we are all just neurotic. I am probably going to find that I do everything everyone else does. When I go out to smoke I purposely let the tune play and I check it as I am going down stairs then while down stairs I can inspect how everything in the low end works together and finally when I get out side I go over to the side of the house to smoke so I can hear bits coming out of my window. From outside often times I hear parts that aren't actually in the tune or maybe it's just the city or nature leaking in but often times these phantom parts get added for real when I get back up in the studio.

I do that tv thing as well, and it really is pointless. I find when I want to concentrate and really get to work I want everything to be tidy and my computer running properly, then I'll spend the next 40 minutes cleaning my computer, re-arranging files, cleaning old rubbish off my pc and closing down 200 antivirus programs before actually starting anything. By then I'm usually ready to go to sleep.

I was wondering when I read that 'EQing in the box' tutorial thing the other day, is it a bit ridiculous to actually try and draw a track (as in 'splodges' in the spectrum/volume/pan/time graph) to get an idea of the mix and which elements to include?

man do we all have the same shit or what...

I really have problems with my work area being dirty...vacuumed well, no clutter on the desk...everything arranged nicely...It's been dirty as hell for some time but I'm cleaning it all up now and finding a nice spot for my keyboard and guitar..should be putting out better stuff with a good environment

nice cold water seems to help the production as well

Weird isn't it, I've rearranged my desk about 20 times in the last couple of months to try and get everything all nice.

I'll get a tune/idea in my head that makes we want to write something then have to loop in my head over and over until I've tidied up, gotten a drink and restarted my computer about 40 times 'cos my fucking soundcard keeps disconnecting. I've usually got sick of what's going through my head at that point.

And Dzaa watching those retard kids in your signature (seemingly) dance and sing along in time to Burial is really funny.

See while I would much rather have the lab all nice and tidy my time there is limited so I rarely clean. It looks like a tornado just went through right now. It's pretty bad. Every time I clean I am carrying out 2 garbage bags and 2 cases worth of empties for recycle. I could probably do a whole load in the dishwasher with the glasses I have up here but fuck me it's two flights of stairs to the kitchen.

I name all my projects something stupid and forget which project is which a couple of days later.
I also have a constant habit of rearranging folders in which samples are contained for somereason trying to make shit more organised , and I end up opening Reason and it can't find the samples so i got to relocate them all.
Also tend to drink a lot of beer when producing, I always find it relaxes me a lot more and i get so much more ideas and once i have one idea I'm on a role for the rest of the night.

I also have a stupid habit of playing a track in progress about 50 times over and just walk round the room and constantly open the fridge even if i aint hungry and there's nothin in it... Sometimes it makes me bored of the track before it's even completed

I know its insane ... I do turn it off once I latch on to something honest ...

I am not making life easier for myself
See I have the radio on too but not by choice. I have some electricity issues in my house. The radio comes through my left monitor. It's not very loud but it still sucks. I also can't keep a lightbulb for more than a month before they burn out. I gotta get the old man up here to help me ground shit out a little better.

That reminds me. I always name the project the first thing that comes into my head when I save the first time and it just ends up being that throughout working on the project but when it comes time to finish it that is when I give it it's name but I only name it on the rendered wav not the project so when it comes time to do the final mixdown for a label I have to search for an hour to find the original project files. I am trying to remember to change the names of the projects now tho.

I've got so many tracks named after films or just random words from the tv that was on at the time, it really does make things difficult to find doesn't it.

For organizing your files :

Make a Production folder -> 3 folders in here called beats, setups, tracks

beats for the starting stuff, setups for the nice sketches, tracks for the finished/almost finished tracks.

name your projects by date like : '09-29-03 - (wip name)
