it has a sexy audio routing system called JACK that lets you router sounds from programs so you dont really have to host your plugins in your DAW which is a good thing

but its also complicated and i havent really made it work yet but its still cool

if it hasnt been posted

its nice to see producers using ubuntu, i gave it a try a couple of months ago, making dubstep with some of those freeware modular softsynths and drumcomputers, but it didnt really make me happy not having reason and ableton live..

now i see ableton can work on wine, so can reason too?

+1 I got into this, although I used the version that was NOT the most recent.. was more stable at the time (lime green and black interface, very simple!)

still have some tracks that I really like the sound of.

So far i've not seen the debate, if your moving away from Windows/Mac why are you using Windows/Mac tools?

Not that I have an opinion onit but it seems like the sidetrack of choice..

People doing the Live In Wine thing should keep us posted tho, I never got reason working due to some asshat reason, got counterstrike going tho!

I'm sure it will have come along a long way since then tho.

lol me and a cpl of other people started that page on the wiki

lmms is the only music production program i got on with on linux. it was the first production program i used, although after a few months my laptop died (hardware issues nothing to do with o/s) and i had to use my gf's vista machine. instead of being pissed off i thought i would take advantage of the fact i could use ableton, and well now i could never go back unfortunately. although if you could find someone to combine lmms with seq24 you would have a linux ableton equivalent.

if your using lmms you HAVE to make sure your on the latest version. checkout the irc room on freenode ##lmms to chat to other users and the devs. props to you for using linux.

that is the one part of lmms that is lacking, jack support isn't really there but its being worked on. having jack support would be great but because you can do pretty much everything apart from chopping inside lmms there is no real need to be able to connect it to other programs through jack.

jack is very powerful, no doubt about that and lmms will be the daddy of linux audio once jack support is implemented fully. jack is difficult to get going but there are so many places you can get tutorials and help. lmms is also the only linux audio program that you can run vst's with on 32 or a 64-bit system, even though ardour uses the vestige wrapper from lmms to implement vst they do not offer vst support on 64bit ardour you are forced to run 32-bit.

I'm using Ubuntu Studio with LMMS here at a youth center. (http://stichting-scn.nl - in dutch) (there is no money for commercial programs, so all we use is open source)
LMMS is working good so far, but any tips for better programs, tricks and tutorials are welcome! (particularly dubstep for myself )

(JACK is a bitch though)

My main laptop is a macbook with OS X. I've been using Ubuntu for about 4 years now on any non-mac machines I have and the web server I sysadmin is Ubuntu. The whole Ubuntu paradigm is really great and much better organised than other distributions.

That said I've never thought about using it for audio.

The JACK Audio interface treats your apps like modules.

And FL and Renoize work fine in Wine.

JACKs seriously pretty sweet if your a performer though.

ubuntu is sick ensure u install the configs mad desktop shizzle

... the free music software is pretty shit unfortunately ... waiting for them to port fl to ubuntu

and if u figure wine out make sure u tell me how to do it tooo
